Department of Education now using SWAT teams

to recover student load defaults.

Kenneth Wright does not have a criminal record and he had no reason to believe a S.W.A.T team would be breaking down his door at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

"I look out of my window and I see 15 police officers," Wright said.

Wright came downstairs in his boxer shorts as a S.W.A.T team barged through his front door. Wright said an officer grabbed him by the neck and led him outside on his front lawn.

"He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there," Wright said.

According to Wright, officers also woke his three young children ages 3, 7, and 11 and put them in a Stockton police patrol car with him. Officers then searched his house.

As it turned out, the person law enforcement was looking for was not there - Wright's estranged wife.

The U.S. Department of Education issued the search and called in the S.W.A.T for his wife's defaulted student loans.

According to the Department of Education's Office of the Inspector General, the case can't be discussed publicly until it is closed, but a spokesperson did confirm that the department did issue the search warrant at Wright's home.

The Office of the Inspector General has a law enforcement branch of federal agents that carry out search warrants and investigations.

one question........why?

Lot's of gun love involved in this one, now the gun nuts have supplied the accounting depts with swat gear.

More ignorance from you. The NRA does not exist because it wants the GOVERNMENT armed against the people you dolt.

I didn't say such gun nut

Repukes are the gun lovers, if your such a hack that you can't see gun love in swat trying to collect a fucking student loan then your dumber than I thought you were asshole.

It simply cannot be that the search was for non-payment of loans. This has to be part of a fraud/criminal investigation of some sort.

Hey dipshit... you may want to double check who is in charge of the government right now.

Hey dipshit, you may want to double check who passed and signed the law that authorized Inspectors General to have law enforcement powers in the first instance.

you are truly one stupid moron. How you can equate the government amassing an arsenal and arming DoEducation personnel with automatic weapons to recover student loans with the members of the NRA is idiocy on the highest mark.

Hey dipshit.... you may want to see who is in charge of the government right now and who is responsible for sending a SWAT team to collect a student loan.

First, there is simply no way in hell that this was about collecting on a student loan. None. Zero. Zilch.

Second, people will use the powers they are granted. If you don't want Inspectors General to execute search warrants or to have law enforcement powers the thing to do is not give them the those powers in the first instance. Hoping that all Inspectors General will be benevolent and not use the law enforcement powers they are provided is asinine, as it criticizing Inspectors General for doing their jobs as determined by Congress and the law. The bill that provided these powers was sponsored by Denny Hastert and signed by George W Bush. Of course, it received a lot of Democratic support in both the House and Senate, but let's get real about who is to blame here.

Yeah... no way.... except to rely on what has been reported thus far....

The ones to blame are the ones that SENT THEM IN. I am sure you are going to pretend that the intent of the HSA Act was to get those evil student loan defaulters.... but somehow I doubt that was the intent. But do go on pretending. Do go on trying to shift blame to Bush rather than the current administration that actually DID this.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I'm just telling you how it is. There is no way in hell that any judge anywhere authorized a search warrant in connection with a loan collection matter. It had to be in connection with a criminal investigation, likely a fraud investigation. The reporting is incorrect.

I'm not "trying to shift blame to Bush." I'm just asking you to get real about who granted Inspectors General the "Big Government" powers that have your panties in a twist. Like I said, if you don't want Inspectors General to do this stuff, you shouldn't give them the powers in the first instance.

It is always good to have an all knowing douche bag handy. I am glad you know that no judge has ever authorized such a warrant. Good to know no authority has ever abused their powers.

Again douche bag.... Do you really expect us to believe this was the intent of the HSA? Give me a fucking break. Tell us genius... how many Inspectors General's are there? Since you are all knowing on this topic.... do tell us that. How many?
