It still has to be voted on by those living there to join. Congress can't unilaterally make any territory or whatever a US state.

Not exactly, the Gov’t would stay on Federal land which wouldn’t be included within a DC State, and, the last indicator showed PR would be interested in becoming a State

On top of that, 40M lost their jobs and health care, and the economy contracted by 33% last quarter as jobless claims approach 900,000+ for the fourth consecutive week.

Oh, and travel from the US is banned to most countries...at least, to the countries worth travelling to.

So how could the Left turn the country into a disaster when you've already done that, ratlicker?????

If they win the Senate, House, and President, they can, now or at some time down the road, exactly why Mitch is worried about the Democrats eliminating the filibuster, that would set the GOP back decades

The entirety of the District of Columbia is federal land. It isn't part of any state. It was set apart so no state had control over the land the federal government was operating on. So, how do you separate one from the other?
It would also provide a big incentive to move the federal government elsewhere as now the other 50 states would be competing for its presence and the money involved.

That's all Trump's fault too hum? Which governors imposed shutdowns on their state "following CDC guidelines?" Which governors screwed the pooch by placing sick COVID patients in nursing homes with the most vulnerable but other wise healthy part of our population?

All the constitution requires is a federal district not to exceed 10 square miles, but no minimum size is specified either. Legally it could be one Square mile. Or less.

Any bill to grant DC statehood would only have to modify and shrink the federal district to just the white house, Capitol building, mall, and associated buildings. The rest of DC would become the state of Columbia.

Perfectly legal.

There is no overriding reason Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Adams Morgan, Anacostia, etc. have to be part of a federal district.

By implementing massive new government regulation. By increasing taxes to confiscatory levels. By implementing a perpetual and generous welfare state. By imposing draconian new laws and prohibitions on society. By establishing a central government with dictatorial powers. The usual stuff they do? COVID will pass. It's a speed bump in the road, nothing more. What doesn't pass is Leftist government screwing everything up. They've done it everywhere they've gotten power.

No it isn’t, it is under Federal authority, but it is not all Federal land, for example, the Georgetown area was not originally part of the District but is apart of the City today. If DC became a State the Government would rest on land not belonging to the State, it would still be independent

It's the "associated buildings" that's going to be the problem. Shrinking the federal district in any case won't be the issue. The big issue is you just made a state out of a city. That is going to cut two ways. The first is there may be renewed calls to divide states and even spin off cities from states by people and now they have a recent precedent. The other is you now have a dysfunctional city operating on its own as a separate government entity. DC on its own is not going to have a sustainable economy or anything else. It's doomed to failure economically.

Don’t have to, if they win all three entities they can make DC and PR States thereby setting the GOP back decades
