I still can’t understand why with all of the candidates the democrat party had to choose from why the establishment was fixated on Biden.
He has so many flaws. The groping. The obvious mental decline which they will not be able to hide. Remember when Hillary collapsed and then she didn’t spend a lot of time on the campaign trail? That is what cost her Michigan and Wisconsin.
Say what you want about Trump but he is indefatigable. Biden will not be able to hang with him. And his gaffes will catch up with him. Hell he can’t even remember Obama’s name some times
The only thing I can think of is that the democrat party is so scared shitless of Trump making inroads with black voters that they believe Biden is their only backstop with that group.

You are right that Joe Biden is a weak candidate with many flaws. Biden supporters are evidently in denial, they are clearly unlikely to be persuaded by most of the common criticisms of the former VP, which are as follows...
* Joe Biden is a frail 77 year old man who is displaying the unmistakable signs of cognitive decline associated with incipient senile dementia The condition is progressive and irreversible. We see on television confused, forgetting things (short - term working memory is impaired) he even managed to forget the famouus lines from Thomas Jefferson's preamble to the Declaration of Independence, i.e. the passage that begins:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable right among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Every pimply school kid in America knows that famous passage and for a career politician who is reciting it in public to be unable to remember the words is beyond the pale . The next day standing on stage to celebrate a victory in North Carolina I think it was, he mixed up his own wife and sister, I couldn't believe it. Biden is also frequently confused, agitated, displaying rapid mood swing, speaking in a rambling, unintelligible manner; again these are all clinical signs of cognitive decline/incipient dementia. Ronald Reagan was also afflicted with a form of dementia in Altzhiemer's disease which is always lethal. I recall the day that he announced his diagnosis to the American public; for me, a great admirer of "The Gipper", it was a terribly sad affair. As for Joe Biden, he should not be running in a high-pressure, mega-stressful rat-race for the Democrat Presidential nomination, whoever it was put him up there, they were very mercenary and cruel people. Where Joe Biden should be is retired from politics, at home with the support of his wife and family and receiving appropriate medical care for his condition. I think that this is Biden's most serious flaw - his cognitive decline - it is simply not possible, nor should it be permissible for a person whose mental health is not 100% sound to become a President of the US. I don't think I need to explain why.
* Joe Biden's record is unimpressive. He has been in Washington since the age of 30 representing Delaware, the " Capital of Corporate America." He is infamous for his connections to the credit card industry. He has lied about his degree of support for the Iraq war. He has a reputation for "creepiness", in Biden, this term has sexual undertones and refers to the inappropriate or unwelcome physical touching of women and girls. He has also displayed more overtly deviant sexual behaviour. An example of the later is the penchant he had- while working in the Obama White House- for undressing himself and disporting his buck naked body in the near presence of female staff who were working for him in the White House. Apparently some the women found this very disconcerting (can't say I blame them !) and sought reassignment to other duties in the White House, ones that not superintended by Biden. Biden while VP was involved , along with his son Hunter in corrupt business dealings in Ukraine and in China. It is cleared that he abused his power as the Vice President of America to place Hunter Biden in a lucrative position as a member of the Board of a corrupt Ukrainian natural gas company called Burisma,, the story doesn't end here but I expect you have already heard the details of Biden's other dodgy dealings in the Ukraine and China many times so I will leave it at that.
* Biden's performance in the Democratic candidate debates was very poor, and generally speaking he has run a lacklustre, lazy campaign
So, I agree with you, Joe Biden, is a flawed candidate who has a lot of baggage. He is old (77 years old), frail and to put it bluntly, is progressively losing his mind. So why would the Democratic establishment back him. Before I tell you why, I like to note that some people will argue that there is no such thing as the Democratic establishment. They're wrong. There is a Democratic Party Establishment and I describe it more more detail below. The thing to accept for now is that it has a lot of money and influence and power, the Republican Party has nothing remotely like it in terms of size. You got a glimpse of the Democratic establishment in action. On Monday night in Dallas we saw moderate Democrat candidate Amy Klobuchar and moderate Democrat candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg,- who had been at each others' throats just days before at a a candidate's debate in Nevada - now unified in publicly backing Joe Biden after they "decided" to drop out of the race. Also, former candidate Beto O'Rourke followed suit and handed Biden a rousing endorsement. This all took place within about 2 hours. Next, on Friday (5th March) billionaire Democrat candidate, Mike Bloomfield flamed out and quit the Democratic Presidential campaign after spending more than $500 million on a failed bid to seize the moderate lane from his rival. Mike also presented a hearty endorsement to Joe Biden. Finally Elizabeth Warren has recently thrown in the towel and quit the Democrat Presidential race as well. Now Joe Biden has the moderate/conventional Democrat lane all to himself. Who do you think it was that cleared the path for Joe Biden to run as the Democrats' centrist Presidential candidate in the contest for the Party's nomination ? Why did Buttigieg, Klobachar, Bloomfield and Elizabeth Warren suddenly decide it was time to drop out within a few days of each other, why did Beto O'Rourke come out to endorse Biden around the same time ? Seems to me that external pressure was brought to bear on these people to quit the race "right now" and that pressure was applied by the Democratic establishment.
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY EXPECTS TO LOSE THE Nov 2020 ELECTION
If you want to understand what is going on in Democratic Party politics right now you first need to understand that they fully expect to lose the next Presidential election to Donald Trump. What they are doing right now has nothing to do with tactics/strategies for winning the Nov 2020 election. Rather the Democrats are pursuing two different objectives they have set for themselves to achieve (1) Keep Bernie Sanders from running against Trump (2) Protect the existing Democratic establishment at all costs.
The Democratic establishment are supporting Joe Biden to the hilt in his campaign to become the partys' nominee. As I mentioned above they have now cleared a lane for him to run in as the Democrats centrist/moderate contender for the Presidential nomination. The Democratic establishment absolutely does not want Bernie Sanders to win the Democratic nomination. The reason is that the party's nominee takes over the party apparatus; it is etched in stone that the party's nominee becomes its titular head. If Bernie Sanders became the Democrat nominee, he and his people would take control of the DNC from the Obama people. The Obama people wouldn't give up without a fight, but traditionally the party nominee is considered to be the "Head Honcho". The Democratic establishment are not going to want to let Bernie Sanders assume that role, so they will do everything they possibly can to to deny him the Democratic nomination.
