march 20 2022 A school district in Colorado has plans to do away with valedictorian awards at its high schools.

Starting with the class of 2026, the Cherry Creek School District in western Arapahoe County, Colorado, will not give special recognition to students who have earned the highest grade-point average in their class at graduations, according to FOX 31 Denver KDVR.

The school district notified parents about the ceremonial change in a recent newsletter, the local news station reported.

The newsletter said faculty have found the tradition no longer appropriate for their students.

"The practices of class rank and valedictorian status are outdated and inconsistent with what we know and believe of our students," said the letter, which is dated March 9, 2022.

"We believe all students can learn at high levels, and learning is not a competition."

We are in big trouble. All our schools are being dumbed down to obscure the huge intelligence gap between the white/yellow races and the black/brown.

So the claim is learning is not a competition. Ok, we all learn at a different pace and different level so there's that. And the gaining of knowledge isn't a zero sum game so it's not competition for scare resources in that sense. But admissions to Universities and applying for grants/scholarships certainly is a competition. So unless we want to say either all kids get into every school they apply to, or we make all Universities lottery based, you can't eliminate competition in education.

HAHAHAHA. You're so dumb you don't realize you're saying the same thing i said and i'm a conservative.

Most of the people that commented on that article are like minded with me. My favorite in response to the “learning is not a competition” drivel. Someone wrote … “Without competition the US isn’t the US any more” … and I agree.

It is certainly NOT ceremonial and the competition for class rank and Valadictorial is highly competitive as they lead to scholarships and the first choices of colleges for these hard working students.

This will insure that the best and the brightest in Arapaho County will be transferring.

People are catching on the the fact that schools these days generally have no interest in education, but I was taken aback to hear Luke Rosiak say in the Tucker interview that grades are now generally straight up fraud. When we often find high school grads who read at a grade school level, as low as third grade, that is a credible claim.

I promise you that the Chinese are nowhere near this stupid.

In California, and I think some other states, if you finish in like the to 10% of your high school class you are guaranteed admission to certain in state schools. So how can you say there is no competition in school?

And do we think people in places like China tell their kids there's no competition? Pardon my French but fvck no! And that's an example of why they kick our *ss. To be clear, we're not talking about pitting students against each other in a total zero sum game environment. That's not what's happening. But as far as competing to bring out the best in kids, then yes.

And the answer is to insist that to graduate from HS you must pass a standardized test. For example the SAT and require the student to get 450+ on both sections.

At present our schools use affirmative action grading which mandates teachers give blacks a passing grade no matter how poorly they do.

And that's a bad policy since there are so many schools that are 90% black and a kid can be illiterate and still be in the top 10% of his class.

We tried that. When too many could not pass the test they then made the test easier. When too many still could not pass the test they got rid of the test.

Moronic thread title, as per usual. This is one school district in Colorado.

It went from 'everybody gets a trophy' to 'nobody gets a trophy'. When I began coaching Little League, there were no trophies for the 8-10 year olds. Didn't want the losing teams to feel badly.

We bought our kids trophies when we won because that's what competition is about. There has to be a prize at the end. I don't care if it's just a cookie, I want that fuckin cookie.

Or else there's no reason to compete.

Education is often competition for intelligent people. The top 10% all fight for number one, and put the work in necessary to succeed. If other students are middle of the road or 'just' above average, I'm sure they're content there. It's their home life that determines where they place.

Valedictorian is nothing more than resume fodder. It does look good, but colleges are going to grab all of the best no matter the superlatives.

This is a moronic policy, as public speaking is a big part of preparing students for the world. A lot of growth occurs when a valedictorian goes through the process of giving an address.
