South Dakota's governor turned down extra unemployment funding. Her state doesn’t need it.

Only 3 states have held the line on employment, according to new data, and and all 3 are Republican-led.

Between December 2019 and December 2020, only South Dakota, Alaska, and Nebraska escaped increases in unemployment.

“Last year, we saw governments all across the country shut down people’s lives. American citizens could run their business, or send their children to school,” South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem said.

“COVID didn’t crush the economy. Government crushed the economy.”

The top 10 states with the highest unemployment rate in December 2020 were all shut down by their DEMOCRAT governors.

Progressive paradise Califpornia leads the nation in unemployment (9%), followed by Colorado (8.4 %), Connecticut (8.0 percent), Hawaii (9.3 percent), Illinois (7.6 percent), Blue Jersey (7.6 percent), Blue Mexico (8.2 percent), Blue York (8.2 percent), Nevada (9.2 percent), and Rhode Island (8.1).

81 million people say you are as wrong as wrong can be.

Facts and data say otherwise.

At least once a week I have to point out that Trump had NOTHING to do with the economy crashing. It was done at the the state level by governors and local leaders.

Simply a fact.

Sorry, but Trump had EVERYTHING to do with the economy. He refused to take the pandemic seriously, he constantly lied about Covid, and its outcome, as did you. Finally there was no other choice but to close everything down. Other countries who dealt with this pandemic properly did not have the economic disaster that we had.

The states with the lowest rates of unemployment all have Republican governors.

Alabama (3.9%), Arkansas (4.2 %), Iowa (3.1 %), Nebraska (3.0 %), New Hampshire (4.0 %), North Dakota (4.1 %), South Dakota (3.0 &), Utah (3.6 &), and Vermont (3.1 %).

No comparison between small rural and farming states, and large industrialized ones. Try again

What are you even talking about?

The economic misery is nearly global. US economy shrunk at 3.5%; Canada at 11%; UK, France, Italy economies all shrunk worse than the US. There are a couple of reasons for this: one is, the Trump economy was robust going into it.

Secondly, since we have a federation of states, each state was *free* to institute whatever degree of mitigation they wanted to and were free to open when they want to. Republican Governors like FL’s DeSantis deserve credit for the US not getting double digit shrinkage—by opening their economies ‘prematurely’.

Conversely, it can be argued that democrats leaders like Michigan’s Whitmer or NY’s Cuomo are responsible for a large degree of our bad numbers.

Trump was essentially a wallflower. President has very limited authority to affect an economy in the kinds of circumstances we saw in 2020.

Democrat and media election year propaganda, notwithstanding.

No, the facts and data actually don't say otherwise.

twump's utter, purposeful inaction on COVID not only destroyed the economy, but he has the blood of almost 500K people on his hands.

Simply a fact.

My dear, Trump lost this election specifically because of his response to Covid. As I have said so many times, had he confronted it head on, and done the right things that many Asian countries did, he may have been re elected.
Even a piece of dog manure like you, lied about the danger and effects of covid for months.

Trump was one of America's worst economic Presidents.

Imagine if he had campaigned truthfully, knowing everything that would happen: he could promise to continue Obama's recovery, but that he'd only be able to keep it going if there was no crisis whatsoever.

That’s actually funny lol.

So, as long as things are going swimmingly it’s the Obama economy. But as soon as things head south, it ceases to be Obama’s economy and becomes Trump’s economy. Nifty how that works out.

The fact is, the economy was tanked by *the actions* of governors and local leaders. COVID didn’t tank the economy—the government did that. State and local governments.

I’ll keep repeating the same facts as much as necessary.

Horse hockey.

It was a foregone conclusion that democrats were going to hang COVID around Trump’s neck. Just like impeachment was inevitable the moment democrats took the House back in 2018.

It was only a matter of what the charge would be.

Your characterization is off.

Trump inherited an economy that was in recovery - for years.

He ignored the only crisis he was dealt with (actually, sort of remarkable for any Presidency - most leaders have to deal w/ a few). Because of his inaction and mishandling of that crisis, the economy is in MUCH worse shape today than it would have been with even a competent leader.

Good luck w/ your "it was the governors!" thing, though.

state lock downs over covid did the job that a fact

Whatever the state of the economy when Trump inherited—he built on it and deserves credit for building on it, same as any other president. Screw the ‘Trump rules’.

And it was the governors. How else do you explain the state by state difference in economies?

Of course it was inevitable, as trump, day after day, misled and lied about the danger of Covid and its effects. Actually he did a shitty job of lying as well. What kind of reaction would you expect from the majority of Americans who believe in science, who were smart enough to see through his bullshit?
You can guarantee that the major reason for trump losing the election, was his handling of Covid.
