But it also casts a spotlight on discomfiting issues of class and credentialism in the Democratic Party that have been just below the surface since the days of the Obama administration.

Some Democrats like Mr. Clyburn, who have nervously watched Republicans try to repackage themselves as a working-class party, believe that Mr. Biden could send a message about his determination to keep Democrats true to their blue-collar roots by choosing a candidate like Ms. Childs, who attended public universities.

In my opinion, democrats must be more forcefull. These times offer tremendous opportunity to take a serious stand against the right-wing and its self-serving pseudo-religious elitist anti-working class and decidedly racist sexist homophobic policies and failed leadership. Although not yet polling in the majority, the only real solution is to expand the Supreme Court.

Ignore the inevitable whining from the Right, and instead of waiting on the polls, do what leaders should do and LEAD.

It will be interesting to see what develops. Will Dems offer up a corporate centrist and dress it up as radical?
