Democrats on the House Ways and Means committee voted Tuesday to release former President Donald Trump’s tax returns in a move that opponents say will have “severe consequences.”

The vote was 24-16 on a party-line basis.

The six years of returns — spanning from 2015-2020 — will be released to the public in the coming days after the documents are prepared by staffers to redact information like Social Security numbers, street addresses, and other identifying data.

The returns will be released as part of a larger committee report on the IRS practice of auditing presidents and marks the end of a long partisan battle that began when then-candidate Trump broke years of tradition by refusing to release his tax returns during the 2016 presidential campaign.

"After a long process, this was not about being punitive, this was not about being malicious," Committee chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) said Tuesday after the vote.

that means they lied to the Supreme Court.......probably not a good idea......

but, it was all about violating federal law and proving their only motive was NOT about assuring that the IRS was being properly regulated.......if released all the committee members voting in favor will be facing federal charges........ironic, isn't it.......violating federal law while failing to find evidence that Trump violated federal law......
 
I read that Trump paid something like $750 a year in income taxes on all the money he claims to have.

The butthurt squeals of indignation out of the right will be ringing off the mountain tops from sea to shining sea.

Gosh I hope they don't invade the Capitol again.

Poor twump. After "promising to release them" he fought tooth and nail, suing to keep them private. The timeframe being released includes his term as president. We'll get to see how much Russian and Saudi money twump took as bribes thought is properties.

We're going to find out how much money his businesses are losing and where his income came from!

actually, under the law you have no right to find out any such thing.......if the committee releases the documents to the public it will be a federal felony......and this one can be proved........

Can't wait to see Trump's tax returns?!! It's only fare, a Trump appointed federal judge held up the request from the House Ways and Means committee for Trump's tax returns for three years?!! And their term is up in two weeks, when the GOP takes over the house?!!

Yes I am, but you haven't said how they'd be violating federal law.

From every knowledgeable source I've read, the House Ways and Means Committee has a clear legal right to release Trump's tax returns to the public.

He held the highest office in the land and the public has a right to know what he was doing financially during that time.

The public's right to know outweighs Trump's right to 100% privacy in his business dealings.

As long as they redact personal data like his SSN, addresses and names of others he did business with, etc.

If they are in violation, why hasn't the SCOTUS stepped in and blocked them?

He didn't want you to know how much money he has borrowed from 3rd world foreign lenders, to float his dying businesses and his millionaire status.

He didn't want you to know how much money he made for himself while in office!

He didn't want you to know that was why he wanted to be the president in the first place- So he could have a Get-out-of-jail-free-card while abusing his executive powers bilking Americans out of their tax dollars!

He didn't want you to know that his Tax Plan was customized just for him and his largest campaign donors to skirt paying taxes.

That is why he had a huge big party down at MARry-A-LARdo the day after he signed his tax bill into law, telling his RICH guests, "I just made you guys some BIG MONEY"!

He didn't want you to know that he and his largest Campaign contributors bilked America out of millions of dollars in Federal unfettered assistance handouts during the pandemic in false claims. And these are the reasons why Donald Trump is the target for the UNITED STATES largest WIDE-SPREAD Justice Department investigation in the History of the United States!

26 U.S. Code § 6103 - Confidentiality and disclosure of returns and return information
(a)General rule
Returns and return information shall be confidential, and except as authorized by this title—
(1)no officer or employee of the United States,
(2)no officer or employee of any State, any local law enforcement agency receiving information under subsection (i)(1)(C) or (7)(A), any local child support enforcement agency, or any local agency administering a program listed in subsection (l)(7)(D) who has or had access to returns or return information under this section or section 6104(c), and
(3)no other person (or officer or employee thereof) who has or had access to returns or return information under subsection (c), subsection (e)(1)(D)(iii), paragraph (10), (13), (14), or (15) of subsection (k), paragraph (6), (10), (12), (13) (other than subparagraphs (D)(v) and (D)(vi) thereof), (16), (19), (20), or (21) of subsection (l), paragraph (2) or (4)(B) of subsection (m), or subsection (n),
shall disclose any return or return information obtained by him in any manner in connection with his service as such an officer or an employee or otherwise or under the provisions of this section. For purposes of this subsection, the term “officer or employee” includes a former officer or employee.
