Democrat wins most votes for House Speaker

Maybe they are all waiting for the proper time to nominate Marjory Taylor Green.

Or that new guy, the one who lied about having a college degree.

In the sixth vote for House speaker the votes broke down like this:

Hakeem Jeffries (D) = 212 votes
Kevin McCarthy (R) = 201 votes
Bryan Donalds (R) = 20 votes

The Constitution says, "The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers", but does not say that the Speaker needs a majority of the votes. In theory, it could argued that a plurality is enough. If the Republicans cannot get their act together, maybe the Democrats should just keep control.

The Constitution says “The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker” but it does not impose a time limit to do so.

Poor Walter.

All spending bills start in the House, so if long enough goes on without a Speaker to swear them in, the US Government ceases to be.

“so if long enough goes on without a Speaker...”

Gee, Walter, perhaps you should try again.
