It was one of the most controversial nuclear energy decisions of Obama’s era. And now, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) sat on evidence linking the deal to a Russian bribery scheme, reports say.

FBI agents gathered extensive evidence “as early as 2009 that showed Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm with bribes and kickbacks,” The Hill reported.

The FBI also had an eyewitness account and documents showing Russian nuclear officials funneled millions of dollars into the U.S. to “benefit former President Bill Clinton’s charitable foundation” while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in office, The Hill reported.

As head of the State Department, Clinton had a seat on the board tasked with recommending to the president whether or not he should approve Rosatom’s takeover or Uranium One.

The Obama administration never notified the House Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence of evidence the FBI had gathered on the Uranium One bribery racket.

In November 2010, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the Russians assuming control of Uranium One’s licenses. One year later the NRC sent Congress a letter to assuage concerns over Russians seeking permission to export uranium out of the U.S., promising to be vigilant.

Now it has been discovered that the Obama Administration secretly approved the export of American uranium to Canada and Europe.

Mueller’s grand jury is investigating a prominent DEMOCRAT lobbyist and a former congressman for their involvement in an influence campaign on behalf of Ukrainian interests tied to Paul Manafort, according to a person with direct knowledge of the investigation.

With emphasis on the Ukrainian lobbying efforts, Mueller’s criminal probe is moving away from investigating the Trump campaign and is aggressively pursuing people who worked as foreign agents without registering with the Justice Department.

More witnesses are expected before the grand jury in coming weeks.

At the center of the widening probe are Tony Podesta, a longtime DEMOCRAT operative, and Vin Weber, a former congressman and leader of his own high-powered lobbying firm, Mercury LLC. The two men were hired as part of a multimillion-dollar lobbying effort directed by Manafort and longtime associate Rick Gates.

Representatives for Weber’s firm and Podesta said they are cooperating with the special counsel’s investigation. Podesta, whose brother was the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, has resigned from his firm.

FBI agents also expressed interest in the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, which produced a 2012 report used to justify the jailing of an opposition politician in Ukraine.

The Justice Department has lifted a gag order on a former FBI informant involved in a high-profile Russia bribery case, clearing the individual to speak to Congress about Moscow’s Obama-era uranium deals in the U.S. and other schemes.

In a statement, the department said it had authorized the informant to speak to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee, House Oversight Committee, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The department said the informant will provide “any information or documents he has concerning alleged corruption or bribery involving transactions in the uranium market,” including Russian company Rosatom, subsidiary Tenex, Uranium One and the Clinton Foundation.

Uranium One is a Canada-based company with mines in the U.S. that was bought by Rosatom, a company backed by the Russian state.

The State Department, then led by Hillary Clinton, was one of nine U.S. government agencies that approved the deal in 2010.

All three congressional committees have launched investigations after The Hill reported that the FBI had evidence that Russian nuclear officials were involved in fraudulent dealings – including extortion, bribery and kickbacks – as far back as 2009 in a case involving Rosatom’s subsidiary, Tenex.
