California Gov. Jerry Brown has decided to allow freedom to a woman who received a life sentence.


She was sentenced to die in prison for the 1994 shooting death of George Gilbert Howard.


Brown's decision on Kruzan's case came nearly two weeks before the deadline for his action. The parole board was expected to act on the decision on Monday.


Kruzan is housed at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla.


Her aunt told the Associated Press she wasn't surprised by the governor's action. "I just wondered why it took so long," Ann Rogen of Riverside said.

This is certainly a sign of compassion and a willingness of Jerry Brown at least to face reality. A switch from the US just attempting to throw it's problems in a jail and consider the problem of it's sick society solved.

No wonder the rest of the south is overflowing with incarcerated felons who smoked a bit of grass. No wonder the US has the highest incarceration rates in the free world. No wonder Americans pay more in taxes to keep people locked up!

And no wonder the teabaggers are screaming at Obama for being a socially responsible capitalist.

Where is the evidence that her victim was a pimp?

She said so, and apparently that excuses murder.
