nov 24 2020 A dozen grocery stores around the state have been forced to close for two weeks because of a public health order issued by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham at a time when the state’s residents are suffering from record high unemployment and food insecurity, critics say.

The order requires businesses with four or more rapid responses of COVID-19 cases reported within in a 14-day period to close for two weeks.

More than 25 essential businesses were shut down as of Monday afternoon, including a number of grocery stores and major retailers.

The closures include two Walmarts in Albuquerque and one in Santa Fe, an Albertson’s in Roswell, a Smiths Food & Drug Center in Albuquerque and New Mexico Food Distribution Center in Albuquerque.

Two New Mexico agencies have created a voluntary testing and contact tracing program for essential businesses — including grocery stores — to prevent 14-day closures triggered by having four employees test positive in a two-week period.

The program also creates a path for businesses ordered to close to restart operations sooner than 14 days, a critical development as Thanksgiving-week shoppers have stood in long lines throughout the state to get into stores that remained in business. The change was even noted on the Senate floor during the special session of the New Mexico Legislature, where Sen. Gay Kernan of Hobbs lauded both stores and the state Environment Department for coming up with a solution.

Grocery stores are a problem, but we need to eat, and there is only so much deprivation people will take before they rebel.

Go a little as you can, go fast, stay away from people as much as you can, use a mask, sanitize before you get into the car after you have loaded and you should be fine.

Everything caries risk of COVID, even staying in your house 24/7.....the reasonable rational thing to do is to manage that risk for yourself.

"Turned into?" New Mexico was a nowhere shithole long before this flu came along. It was just a state you drove through to get to somewhere else. There's nothing there of real interest to make you want to go there and visit and even less reason to live there.

We all know what that means. If you want to reopen your store, you have to pay a bribe to the DNC.

BS. If you're in good health and under 70, the rational thing is to do nothing special. Even if you catch this silly covid, it's just a cold. The number of covid deaths is under 20,000 not the 260,000 the FNP is telling us.

We do need to keep our very expensive rather crappy medical system from being swamped, especially after we lied for so long to front line workers about doing pandemic prep.
