I coached my two sons' youth baseball teams and one of the other teams' seven year olds was batting and hit directly over his heart by a pitch.

His heart stopped beating and he could not be revived.

Horrible, there is a plaque honoring the young boy.

Actually, it's a good sign. His vitals were back, and it's common to sedate/intubate serious heart complications.

That tackle was pretty brutal. He was doing fine before then.

The tackle wasn't as bad as most that we see.

I believe his heart stopped from the helmet to the chest. This is more common in baseball but I'm sure we'll find out exactly what happened today.

There was speculation that there might have been a tear in the aorta from the trauma, but that was last night before any info was available.

Actually, the mortality rate among the younger victims is much higher than the mortality rate of older victims of heart attack.
