About all you can say about them in their favor is they weren't violent, just vile. Saw them once at a protest they held in downtown St. Louis at an Elton John concert. There were more of us counter-protesters than there were the satanic Westboro cultists. They even brought children. There was a heavy police presence around them. Once they were done doing their chants and waving their signs, the police escorted them away to (I presume) their vehicles. They sure got a lot of catcalls from traffic passing by, as well as one-finger salutes. We got honks and thumbs up!
 
If they had been black democrats guano would be at the head of the line with a gun a hangman rope and a torch to commit arson with not to mention a hammer to break into stores to loot

My favorite story about them was a town in Mississippi where they showed up for a funeral. When the Westboro assholes gathered in the hotel parking lot to go harass the military funeral they found that their cars were blocked by other cars. Despite pleas of assistance, the situation wasn't cleared up until after the funeral.

Good beans. There were other incidents where they went to picket at funerals (either a deceased gay person, or a soldier) and were completely blocked from view by phalanxes of ppl who kept them away by linking arms.

Currently Fred is getting the shit beat out of him by his master, Satan. He died in 2014.

At the Elton John concert, they had LEOs surrounding them, probably to prevent anyone from beating their faces in on this side of Hell. It was sickening to see children with them.
