Why would a liberal columnist for a liberal paper write about her then?
You might want to do a little research on that. Here, I will start you off : https://guides.lib.umich.edu/c.php?g=637508&p=4462444
You can find it to be so from many, many reputable sources.
The news media never look past their blinders only at Republicans for the complaints !!
Yes, the regular Democracy has declared it curtains for Clinton.
Hillary does not stand a chance in the primaries.
First off, the NYT isn't a "liberal paper," does it's editorials lean left, mostly, but not all the time, and it has an array of conservative columnists. New York ain't Salina, Kansas, and the Times reflects such
Secondly, Dowd has a track record with the Clintons, not a fan (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/oct/13/hillary-clinton-maureen-dowd), dates back to the 1990's
Mareen Dowd just goes to town on the Clinton's here. What's interesting is Hillary won't rule out running again in 2020. She just can't let it go.
Curtains for the Clintons

Their pathological need to be relevant in America is belied by a Canadian arena, where stretches of empty seats bear witness to the passing of their relevance. It’s a pity.

I don't know why Canadians would have any more interest in the Clintons than Americans would have for Stephen Harper.
I applaud the Clintons, though, for letting Canada know every American doesn't hold it in contempt like trump does.

Because the American president is essentially the most powerful person on the planet. That has far more appeal than a Canadian prime minister

That's our opinion but I don't know if your average Canadian thinks so.
Forbes did a ranking and they put Xi Jinping at #1 and Putin as #2. trump came in 3rd.
The average Canadian doesn't think the U.S. President is the most powerful person in the world? What do you base that off of?
That was my take on it.
Having Canadian relatives, I do not think Canadians are particularly interested in shelling out money to listen to the Clintons.
But I thought that an ulterior motive of this Cllntion shin dig in Toronto might be an opportunity to mend fences with our northern neighbors, to let them know that Americans have not gone bat shit crazy (only the Trump-worshipping Republican Party has).
This fence mending effort is neither trivial nor insignificant. On my last trip to Ontario and Quebec, for the first time in my life I detected a palpable undercurrent of anti-Americanism. That people there actually were wondering if America was a reliable ally that still holds the same traditional western liberal values as Canada does. That was the first time in my life I felt a little uncomfortable being an American in Canada. Thanks Republicans and thanks Trump!
Articles I've read on the internet. Especially those dating from when trump boorishly insulted Canada after the G-7.

I applaud the Clintons.
