Gov. Bill Haslam vetoed a bill seeking to make Tennessee the first state to designate the Bible as its official book.

:good4u:

The bill had passed both chambers of the Tennessee General Assembly although sponsors said the legislation was aimed at honoring historical contributions of the Bible as opposed to a government endorsement of religion.

The state's attorney general warned that the bill would violate both the U.S. and Tennessee constitutions.

Republican Sen. Steve Southerland, an ordained minister and one of the bill's main sponsors, did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment on the veto.
