Crazy car nutter kills again...

That's a strawman argument. I don't advocate baning guns. I do support 2nd ammendment rights.

I also advocate preventing nut jobs like Adam Lanza from either getting a drivers license or being permitted to own an assault rifle. I also advocate having adult discussions on how to prevent tragedies like Sunny Hook and not knee jerk responses opposing any such dialogue.

The mentally ill already are prevented by law from purchasing a gun.

So your 'adult conversations' come down to 'which would you rather face... Adam with a gun or Adam with a car'?

Ok Mutt.

It doesn't prevent death Garud. As I stated, the laws are meant as a deterrent to make people think about the consequences of drinking and driving.

Now... does MADD suggest we ban alcohol purchases?

Now... does anyone suggest we ban all gun purchases?

Cars are regulated for safety, you cannot mass produce a vehicle in the United States without it passing very rigorous safety requirements and checks, this is done to save lives. There are types of cars that cannot be sold to the public because of the potential for severe injury or death.

The same is true for alcohol.

Cars are regulated for safety,

you specifically said 'register', not regulate. If that was just a misspoken sentence on your part, no problem. If you are of the mindset that vehicle registration is done for safety reasons, you're going to have to specifically prove that.

I would be curious to hear what you base that on... or did you mean to say that most people who think about committing suicide don't fall into that category? Many who 'attempt' suicide are not serious and thus they make attempts that are likely to be unsuccessful. These are obviously a cry for help, rather than an attempt of a determined person to kill themselves.

I meant what I said.

A knife slitting the wrist vertically along the vein while in a tub is just as effective (not to mention it has a lower probability of failure) as a gun. Obviously it is tough with regards to suicide. Which is why we attempt to keep guns out of the hands of those with mental issues. I think we can agree that more needs to be done on the front of mental help for people.

The statistics are overwhelming on this, SF. If you attempt suicide using a gun, you will most likely succeed (85% successful). If you attempt by cutting yourself, you will most likely fail (1% successful).

They are registered so we know who is responsible for each one. And as a revenue device.

I am not advocating registration of guns.

they are registered for ownership purposes and tax revenue.

ITs both, we need to know who owns certain cars. I have had to go to the registry often to determine who owns certain cars, it assists me in lawsuits, but it also assists in commerce. Much like how a title to a house is filed.

The American-Statesman has confirmed the identity of the suspect in last night’s SXSW incident. He is Rashad Charjuan Owens, 21, of Killeen

:rofl2:
He looks like a true Obamabot.....

Well, the literature on suicides is quite consistent on the idea that most suicide attempts are the product of short-lived crises and people who attempt but fail rarely go on to successfully kill themselves. Meanwhile, firearm suicide attempts are 85% successful. Now I'm not all that smart, but it seems to me that if you limit access to a highly successful method to people with fleeting suicidal thoughs, you will reduce suicide rates.

Then try to explain how China, who rates way above the US in suicides per 100,000 population, with the following methods listed:
1. Poisons 81.9%
2. Hanging 7.8%
3. Drowning 5.7%
4. Jumping from a high place 1.3%
5. Self cutting 1.5%
6. Unclassified others 0.7%
7. Self-inflicted explosion 0.4%
8. Rail tracks 0.1%
9. Bumping head against something hard 0.2%
10. Firearms 0.1%
11. Cooking gas 0.03%

Why is it that when a Muslim commits and act of violence, the Liberals aren't calling out for more restrictions that will affect all Muslims?
Why is it that when someone commits an act of violence with a car, the Liberals aren't calling our for more restriction affect all drivers?
But when someone commits an act of violence with a gun, Liberals want to put more restrictions that will affect all gun owners.
