In the face of a 3.5 year sentence to a Russian prison camp, democracy activist Alexei Navalny in court continues to openly excoriate and mock Putin, "the underpants poisoner", while also having the mindfulness to draw heart symbols on the glass cage wall for his wife Yulia as she watches the proceedings.

Meanwhile, in USA supposedly steadfast Trump rightwing "patriots" who stormed the Capitol are groveling and begging mercy from judges on misdemeanor charges.

Alexei Navalny has got guts, and I deeply respect him for that, under him it would be a much better Russia.

This guy is balls to the wall courageous.

Putin's stooges claim Navalny has no popular support, but most of my relatives in Russia seemingly have pro-Navalny logos and imagery on their FB pages.

I saw on the news that people were demonstrating in the streets in support of Navalny, which tells me that there has to be strong support for Navalny for them to do that.

Free Navalny!

Biden says U.S. will not hesitate to raise the cost on Russia, calls for Navalny's immediate release

President Joe Biden warned Moscow on Thursday that the United States will not hesitate to raise the cost on Russia and defend American interests in his first major foreign policy address since taking office.

"I made it very clear to President Putin in a manner very different from my predecessor that the days of the United States rolling over in the face of Russian aggressive actions, interfering with our elections, cyberattacks, poisoning its citizens, are over," Biden said.

Awesome. About time we have a real POTUS and not a Putin puppet. I hope international pressure can free Navalny.

:) US support of Navalny could be seen as 'political interference'. This is kind of a fine line to walk. Putin easily marks Navalny as a 'US Stooge'. So, tricky situation.

Good point, it is a fine line -- but our support of Soviet dissidents in the 1970s and 80s did not diminsh their stature as legitimate voices of dissent in Soviet Russia.

Yeah. Supporting 'Democracy' and 'Free Speech' are concepts that The West has historically supported. Once the US begins 'picking' a Candidate, then the other side can use that AGAINST the Candidate the US has picked. Similar to how Trump was viewed as 'Putin's Puppet'.

I'm all for supporting Navalny and his Organization. This is probably more better suited for the CIA.

"Psychological warfare
Psychological warfare, or the basic aspects of modern psychological operations, have been known by many other names or terms, including MISO, Psy Ops, political warfare, "Hearts and Minds", and propaganda. The term is used "to denote any action which is practiced mainly by psychological methods with the aim of evoking a planned psychological reaction in other people".Wikipedia"

A guy who literally dares Putin to send him to a Siberian prison camp, and continues to openly excoriate Putin in the face of a Kangaroo court has cemented his reputation as a legitimate opposition figure and genuine spokesperson for Russian democracy and reform. Any sanctions USA and EU place on Putin's inner circle will not change that.

Just my two cents.

no it would not,,
all he wants is increased pensions and taxes on da rich he has no other agenda except "Putin is corrupt"

Totally agree. (Navalny may NOT be coming OUT, or if he does, could be a broken man) :|

but it was interference and we didn't care because Russia was the Evil Empire of the Cold War.
Do you want that again? I sure don't even though we have it anyways

Putin is a ruthless Dictator that kills his political enemies, how can things be worse under someone else?

spoken like a westerner shaming Russia.. fuck that -let the Russian people run their own country.

Navalny loves the limelight..but he isn't capable of dealing with the oligarchs .

he doesn't even commit to holding Crimea
which is absolutely essential for Sevastopol access, and they have the Kerch Strait bridge as well now

Crimea is a done deal, time to move forward.

Reagan's evil empire slogan was horseshit.

Republicans, especially Trump Republicans have no standing to lecture anyone on Democracy.

The claim that either we act like Putin's lapdog or we have another 1950s Cold War is a false choice.

Jimmy Carter's support of Soviet dissidents is one of the great success stories of the cold war.

Biden and the EU are likely to implement sanctions to extract a price from Putin's inner circle and his criminal oligarchy. No one is talking about doing substantial damage to Russian civilians, many of whom support Navalny or oppose Putin

I greatly admire this man and his wife. They do have courage. His fate with Biden in office will be far different than with Trump in office.
