No not at all. But if you pay them to go a steal something for you that is illegal. If a reporter receives stolen information it isn't illegal. Project V received the Diary and didn't publish it and gave it to the police when they could not verify its authenticity. The very fact that the FBI raided Project V looking for the diary in my mind verifies its authenticity.

Only telling the truth will save their asses. Saying anything that isn't true will get them charged with perjury and negate any plea deal they have.
You didn't read or you have a reading comprehension property. Project Veritas is accused of telling the couple to go back and steal other items. That would be a conspiracy to commit a crime.
I guess every journalist that conspires to commit theft should get worried but then I think they should have been worried even before this.
Journalists didn't pay for the Pentagon papers and they didn't ask Ellsworth to go back and steal other documents. Another difference is Ellsworth made copies of documents and didn't steal the only copy of that document. In the Project Veritas case, property was stolen not just copied so the copy could be released to the press.
It's kind of hard to claim they didn't know it is stolen when Project Veritas asked the couple to go back to steal other items. Of course the government could have that corroboration since they have seized and searched email and text message accounts of persons working for Veritas. Those warrants required evidence of the crime before they could get the warrant.

Where is your evidence that the NYTimes was given the original tax documents and not copies? Project Veritas was given the original diary which was stolen and they knew it was stolen since they asked the couple to go back and retrieve (steal) other items belonging to Ashley Biden.
They gave it to the police after they asked the couple to steal more items and after they were informed they could be prosecuted for receiving stolen property.
Gosh.. officer, let me give you the stolen jewels and we can just forget about the crime of how I received stolen property knowing it was stolen and tried to sell it.
