Could you pass sixth grade economics?

I was very general in my comments about parents not having financial literacy. I didn't break it down by education level or how much one makes. People can make a lot of money and not have good financial literacy. There are parents who even have good literacy themselves but don't work with their kids on it.

Absolutely. My parents were very open about bills, credit (and its dangers), household expenses, etc. while I was growing up. I knew what dad made and the expenses we had...plus I was good at math so that helped too. Many parents aren't so open. Also, some my peers were not taught this stuff and dug a financial hole for themselves early on which they have had to dig out of over time. Every household is different.

Economics and personal finance don't have anything to do with one another.

From the article:

""The U.S. falls behind the OECD average on financial literacy for 15-year-olds. Now, 17 states require a personal finance course for high school graduation, up from seven in 2007, the Council for Economic Education says.""

This. I fit this comment. Planning to retire next year at 51 if nothing bends or breaks.

Good for you......that is a wonderful goal and I hope it all works out for you....

If I didn't have to put 2 daughters through college and one through med. school I might have had that opportunity too....but family comes first......
