More than 20,000 people have signed a petition to allow the open carry of firearms at the Republican National Convention this July.

The convention site does not currently allow "firearms and other weapons of any kind, including pepper spray, pocket knives and/or blades of any kind" on the premises, though Ohio is one of 31 states that allows the open carry of firearms without a permit or license.

The petition declares that such a policy is "a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk."

The petition was launched Monday, March 21 with a goal of 5,000 signatures, which it reached by Thursday. As of Saturday afternoon that number had grown to over 22,000.

OH just when I thought it couldn't get any better. I'm going to sign this petition.
 
Remember "Gun free zones are dangerous."
Those attendees would be "sitting ducks" without assault rifles.
Nobody will be save unless everyone is armed.

I think they should take it a step further and say nobody is allowed in without a gun.

Excellent suggestion, Counselor.

Can you imagine the spectacle of hundreds of armed conservatives shooting at each other in the convention hall while the cameras roll?
 
This is a wonderful idea.JPP conservative gun nuts should be behind this 100%.
After all, guns save lives!
More guns will save more lives!
Mandatory open carry in the arena with Trump being denied the nomination by party big wigs.
What could go wrong?

What about the warring factions inside?

Will they turn their guns on each other?
