I think you are when you can't see how, especially when comparing the "little monkey" doll to the white "Pretty Panda" doll. Was it Jimmy the Greek or Howard Cosell that lost their job for saying "look at that monkey run?" Fuck sake the terms "porch monkey" (apologies to any that I offend but with stupid people you have to hit them with a board so they get it) and "Yard Ape" have been used by racists for decades to dehumanize black people and especially men and boys. I am so fucking tired of racists pretending that racism doesn't exist and racist shit like Little Monkey and Pretty Panda were just cute nicknames for the dolls. Maybe for easter they can put the little doll in a rabbit suit and call it "Jungle Bunny". You purposely obtuse assholes are dismissed. Lesson over.

My first born was lovingly nick named my "lil monkey" when she was about 18 mos because she would climb up everything and was always giggling.

However, I grew up in Ca where the term monkey was ascribed in a derogatory manner to blacks as well as another term pickaninny. To think 30+ years later a manufacturer would be so stupid (best case) or so blatantly racist (worst case) is incredible. The fact that another doll (white) was called "pretty panda" sitting on the shelf right along side is obscenely, imo, outrageous.

Has the manufacturer made any kind of statement in his own defense?

I can't imagine what excuse they could use. It's not something that anybody could reasonably say they "just missed" when manufacturing it and sending it out across the nation. Whoever ordered this to be put on the shelves of any store should no longer maintain any employment. There is no possible way that this many people made "innocent" decisions based in ignorance.
