The former Rutgers University student convicted in a webcam spying case says that he was insensitive toward his gay roommate but not biased, and that he doesn't think he was the reason for his roommate's suicide.

Dharun Ravi, 20, was convicted last week of invasion of privacy and bias intimidation, a hate crime, after using a webcam to view a snippet of Tyler Clementi's dorm-room liaison with another man, then tweeting about it. The case gained huge attention...

I remember the first time I heard the story here, at that time people were saying he recorded them having sex then posted it on the internet. That the kid was "outed" by the guy... That he staged watching parties...

None of these are true. After watching the 20/20 on this, I have a hard time calling the Ravi kid a "hater" even... I heard the evidence provided and while he was insensitive he didn't do what people thought that he had done. Even the "stop bullying" guy who put out that video on the day before the kid jumped off the bridge says that people may have jumped the gun.

While I wasn't on the Jury and didn't hear all the evidence they did, what they showed on 20/20 wasn't a kid who hated gay people and bullied this guy unmercifully.

come on damo, where would our society be if people actually had to deal with facts and the real world? all too often, people want to hear the outrage displayed by deity like people such as nancy grace, so that they can feel just as outraged at a society that could possibly let casey anthony get away with murder.

So neither of you think the people of New Jersey have a right to enact and enforce their own laws?

Interesting.

If you don't think that, can you explain your earlier statement in the context of this thread subject?
by not specifically referring to this case, or to new jersey directly, my statement (in the context of this thread) refers to the immediate knee jerk reactionaries who think they know what happened in ANY high profile case based on the simplest of circumstances, like race, gender, or perpetrator.

Rather convoluted, wouldn't you agree?

We had a similar situation here on JPP recently, didn't we?
