Contested Convention

If there is a Contested Convention....

Trump gets close to getting a majority but does not get enough...

Would you be comfortable with party rules allowing someone other than Trump, who in this scenario, had the majority of delegates get the nomination, or would you complain that it is undemocratic to do that?

I heard last night on one of the cable shows that this happened 5x in our history - and a few times, the nominee was not the candidate w/ the most delegates.

Not sure if that's true, but it's interesting. I'm not really comfortable w/ the idea, personally.

They are gonna do what they are gonna do. The rules are the rules and they are designed to fix it so the establishment candidate gets the nomination. Same thing going on in the democrat party but for some reason that seems of little interest to you.

I don't want Trump to get the nomination but if it appears that the establishment is screwing him out of the nomination, not only would they be handing the Presidency to Hillary, they could kiss Congress goodbye. There would be a revolt. The number of people staying home would dwarf what happened to Romney

We've only had a primary process that was anything resembling democratic since like 72. The closest things came to this was '68 (and hardly any states held actual primaries in that year).

I just got done voting for Trump, but I don't care if he gets the nom or not. It would suck if he won it fair and square and got it snatched away, but it's not keeping me home. I'm making one last ditch effort to do what I think is right, then I'm going to sit back and watch hillary fuck everything up(I still think she's going to win it because the electorate has been dumbed down enough to think she is competent). But even if it goes brokered, I think it's just going to be a matter of Cruz, Rubio and Kasich having a say in the platform in exchange for their delegates. I hope. I'm getting sick of politics. It used to be interesting.

I'm all for a contested convention. It is the Republican nominating process, after all, so it's really not asking much for the GOP to actually nominate a Republican to run for president. Let Trump run for the Democratic Party's nomination in 2020.

That said, with Rubio out, Cruz can start winning delegates all over the place now. Kasich can damage Trump in places like Penn, NY, Delaware, Maryland, RI, and CT.

I am all for letting the people speak. While I may not like the outcome, the voice of the people should count. If the votes are too close to call, have a special election. Delegates? I don't trust it.
