Take your pick:

  • Cutting taxes on the rich would lead to prosperity for all.
  • Deregulating the economy would create jobs and opportunity for individuals.
  • Privatizing government services will result in better overall performance.
  • That you can achieve the American Dream simply through privilege and/or because it's God's will.
  • Immigrants are stealing your jobs and if they were kicked out, you'd have a factory job that pays eleventy bajillion per hour.
  • Cutting corporate taxes will grow your 401k.

Not the point of the article. Again, the point of the article was to examine why the mortality rate for middle-aged white people grew so much since 2000, and the conclusion after not one, but TWO studies was that their mortality rate was increasing because they were drinking themselves to death out of despair.

Despair that life didn't turn out the way they had been promised by the people they spent the last few decades voting for who promised them otherwise.

Not sure why you aren't able to take that away from the article when it's written in plain English.

That's about healthcare... We almost turned a corner with Obamacare..

I live around a lot of seniors.. I don't see despair. I see failing health, dementia.. meanness.. as in people who were mean when they were young are mean now even if they are financially well off.

Dotcom bubble caused by what? TAX CUTS. Capital Gains Tax cuts, specifically. Conservatives promised that cutting Capital Gains Taxes would free up capital for businesses to hire and expand.

Again, it's not about health care because the mortality rate for every other demographic didn't see the same increase.

Well, I don't really accept anecdotal accounts as evidence in a debate, so you're gonna have to do better.

The study, which was then revisited again, concluded that what was driving up the mortality rate for poor white trash was depression. Depression that caused poor white trash to drink and/or drug themselves to death rather than face the reconciliation of their poor life choices.

So they're killing themselves, and society is better for it.

You said they were "virtually the same".

Then you admitted one was 20% higher than the other.

That means they're not "virtually the same". It means one is higher than the other.
