The mortality rate for blacks did not increase but is much higher. Does that mean they were already drinking themselves to death out of despair?
Should we also be celebrating the higher mortality rate for African-Americans?
And it says nothing about political orientation. The whole "economic despair" explanation was only speculation--they did not collect data on these factors.
