In the wake of a partial government shutdown on Friday, Washington Post's conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin declared that President Donald Trump is “weak and getting weaker by the moment” after caving to pressure from far-right figures.



“I truly don’t understand why they’re capitulating to a president whose approval rating is under 40 percent and why they don’t just do their job, pass a clean bill to keep the government open, even if it’s just through the holidays because that would help themselves,” she said. “It would help their own popularity if they did that.”

Leave it to guno to claim Jennifer Rubin a conservative. She may have been at one time but in becoming 100% anti-Trump she has given up any pretense of being a conservative. It's one thing to oppose Trump from a conservative basis. There are many principled conservatives who do and they have my respect. But in Rubin's case whatever Trump does, she supports the opposite. If he said the sky was blue she would say he is wrong. Trump could take an actual conservative position and Rubin would oppose it. That's not being conservative. That the WaPo claims her a conservative shows their level of honesty.

From what I can tell, Jennifer Rubin is a principled conservative who stuck to her guns and consistently and publically opposed the ascension of the popular vote losing and dangerously incompetent Trump to the office of the presidency.

In future years, she is not going to have to join the erstwhile Trump supporters in pretending she never supported him.

She is a stark contrast to the "traditional" conservatives of jpp dot com who put on their knee pads, gave Trumps shoes a tongue bath, and spent their message board careers providing him cover.

I have no idea of why Salon called her a hack...or why other liberal publications call her a flat out bad writer...

...but Salon...and other publications labeled "liberal" tend to be very hard on true conservatives.

Perhaps that is the reason.
