Common Core...

This is the only discussion of common core that has ever centered on some actual element of it. Its not unusual for the particulars of presenting subjects to change over time. This does not make it bad just different than what we sre familiar with. They have a new way to tie shoelaces too. I tried it and it was easier but i continue to do it as i always have. But how do you see the concept of a.curriculum that is taught across the country ? That is the point of it after all. Chances are kids are already doing that math thing this way.

As a teacher grading your common core assignment I would have to give you partial credit on this, and not very much at that. I would give you credit for getting how many Elena, Damian and Trish had correct, but the number Mrs. Morales had initially in the bag would have been 80. But then I would get serious and would have to count off a lot more because your explanation was woefully inadequate. Again, this according to common core, and one of the reasons I am not wholly sold on it. I am pressed for time right now but will talk about the pros and cons of common core from my perspective and according to my opinion later. My son is in the state spelling B tonight so we have to travel but I will address this ASAP. I have been working on the transition from our state standards to common core since 2007 so I have developed a pretty good opinion of it.

This bothers me: According to the article, this system was developed by DC-based trade organizations. Exactly which "trades" are we talking about here?

Yea that was the problem i refered to earlier. I spent 15 minutes on the time line approach myself before I finally gave up.....and yea...it only takes about 5 seconds, as the author stated, to do it the traditional way.
