History will judge that the "poorly timed letter" was the result of a serious "damned if you do; damned if you don't" situation. If he had not released that letter and Hillary Clinton had won (AS ALMOST EVERYONE THOUGHT SHE WOULD) he and the FBI would have been accused of helping her to win.
