Columbia Student Hunted by ICE Sues to Prevent Deportation

I'd really oppose this action if presence was the only justification.

It has a chilling effect. I might not agree w/ the causes of certain protestors, but I certainly support their right to air their views peacefully. The fact that some protests went south isn't something that all attendees could have anticipated.
I support peaceful protests too. It's rare that a radical Leftist protest on a university campus doesn't involve at least some violence. The Columbia protests were more than a little violent.

Capitol was closed. Something people need to stop lying about. NO ONE HADE A RIGHT TO BE IN THE BUILDING
That's not true. Many of the so-called protesters / rioters entered the Capitol building with the acquiescence of the Capitol police. Buffalo man's wandering of the building--to use a well-known case--had him walking around with a police escort who even opened doors for him.

It was closed. Your lies are fucking boring.

They were not violent. Stop fucking lying.

Trump’s Columbia Funding Cutoff Is Illegal

The announcement states further that Columbia did not respond to a March 3 notice from the task force “that it would conduct a comprehensive review of the university’s federal contracts and grants in light of ongoing investigations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.” Friday was March 7. The announcement that four days was too long for Columbia to take before doing or saying something in response does not make clear what the administration expected the university to do or say in that short time frame.

Wait, can they actually do that? The answer is plainly no.

Actually, the answer is plainly yes. Columbia has no intrinsic right to federal funding for anything. If the federal government cuts off spending to review the contracts, grants, and other monies they are giving Columbia, they have every right to do so. It isn't Columbia's money the feds are dealing with here, it's federal money. Universities, public or private, have no 'right' to federal money whatsoever.
