Colonial Pipeline is a private company. Should the US Government get involved?

I am hoping JPP anti-Marxist scholars like MSG, Anatta, Sailor, BigDog, etc. would weigh in on this. I know they are COMPLETELY AGAINST 'Government' intervening in the Market Place.

Against this largely foreign threat, the U.S. government leaves it to the private sector to protect itself. The National Security Agency collects intelligence about cyberattacks, the FBI investigates them after they happen and the Department of Homeland Security tries to protect government computers. But no federal agency is in charge of defending the American public against hackers, be they criminals or intelligence operatives.

"No one would ever think the private sector is responsible for defending itself against North Korean missiles," said Glenn Gerstell, a recent former NSA general counsel. "And yet the private sector is expected to defend itself against foreign cyber maliciousness."

Our cyber security is Dog Shit because our leaders barely have given a fuck about doing this job well.

BUCKLE UP!

trump required all vulnerable cyber security points to go through an "audit" by Texas companies we had never heard of. The Texas companies hired/were hired by Russians. Now all the audited points of attack are being attacked using the information from the audits.

At this point, I can only say I wish one particular leader had shown less interest in cyber security.

All they gotta do is make a backup of their hard drives every so often.

Ransomware is a joke!

Backups have become much better, but ransomware has moved on to most often threatening to release the information. Backups does not prevent the information from being released. The other threat is altering the processes, which also is not prevented by backups.

I dont think so, and protecting the nation is the most important job of government, one that ours keeps failing at.

A good government helps... But most cyber security is the cyber equivalent of locks on doors. The government does not need to install every door lock. It is possible for there to be door locks without government. It might not be a good idea for the government to control every door lock.

Why use public funds (Taxpayer money) to support a private business?

well for one thing we have been using public funds to not only 'fund private business' but to fund HUGE conglomerates like Shell and Exxon to name but a few

hell we even invaded Iraq to protect 'private business', as in oil businesses

we even used private funds to bail out Goldman Sachs et al, this is how it is and has been for a while

do we need a universal mandatory I.d. system authenticating every individual on earth biometrically?

no thanks.

destroying all the computers would be a better idea.

It has already been decided that we are going there, which is a tangential issue... the issue here is that our government has failed to perform its duty to protect the nation vis a vis the internet.
