College football’s future?

Where have you heard a super conference of that (limited) size proposed? Not saying it hasn't, but I have not heard it.

I attended the Leonard-Hagler fight at Caesars,
and it was one of the worst decisions that I ever witnessed.

First, Leonard had no interest in fighting Hagler but eventually the purse got too big to ignore.
As it was, the fight took place about three or four years after the public most wanted to see it.

Leonard demanded a lot of stipulations. He demanded a huge 22' ring in which he could shamelessly run away.
He demanded a 12-round fight back when 15 was still the norm.
He also demanded 10 oz. gloves when 8 oz. gloves were the norm for title bouts.


Then he ran like a bitch in every round,
but rallied with flamboyant but ineffectual flurries at the very end of each round.

When the decision was announced in Leonard's favor, the crowd was stunned with disbelief.
Hagler was understandably disgusted and retired to Italy where he appeared in films.

Hagler died in New Hampshire a couple of years ago at the age of 66, probably of Covid.

Heard proposed? No where, just predicting based on recent trends, you didn’t think all this realignment was done now did you? Ten years ago you nor any fan would have thought USC and UCLA would someday be heading to the Big Ten, but now it is a reality. It’s not over, and because it is motivated by money, it is not finished

Been there, done that, there was a guy here who was an Alabama alumni and everything I showed him data on Alabama football players he’d return with some statistic or report issued by Alabama as rebuttal. No matter what is produced there will be a school or conference “report” heralding their success. Even NC came out with a boasting “explanation” of the success of their special majors for athletes

Point being, there are schools out there that other than covering their ass could care less about academics for football players, and they certainly aren’t going to let academic requirements get in the way of attracting or keeping five star players they have arranged big NIL deals for to play

Didn’t know he died, I remember watching the Hagler Hearns fight that only lasted a couple of rounds but was brutal. I was in a bar, back then the bars had only one TV mounted up above and only turned on for sports. Even those not interested couldn’t help but taking notice, it was brutal

After seeing the film Ragging Bull I started to research LaMotta and got into watching film of the fighters of that era: Zale, Graziano, Fuller, Basilio, DeMarko, and of course Robinson

I saw Ray Robinson get upset by local contender Paul Pender in the old Boston Garden when I was thirteen years old.
My dad and I both thought Robinson had won but Pender did put up a good fight.

We walked to the Garden and then back home; that's how close we lived to it.

So you think we'll have one conference of maybe 15 teams while having a 12 team (or larger) playoff? How would that even begin to work?

This is so interesting. You're actually ok with them getting money?

It's also interesting because your mind set is/was the mindset of the PAC 12, 'everybody is equal and no one is better than anyone else' and guess what, the real world doesn't work that way and the PAC 12 failed. The idea that Caleb Williams should get the same as some walk-in... (no personal disrespect to the walk on but from a value perspective they aren't equal)
