Oh I agree with you there. Money has subverted our government. It's just niave to think we can get money out of our political system. We just need to regulate its influence.

I mean if we don't we might as well just get rid of the constituyion, anoint a king and live in a European style aristocratic dominated society.

Every time they try to regulate it, it finds another way - like a dam that keep springing leaks whenever you patch up the existing ones. 527's are a great example of that.

"Free speech" is a false cover for the kind of money being spent on campaigns now, from all fronts. If the framers of the constitution could have seen the extent of it, they would have qualified it and built restrictions into the consititution when it comes to campaigns & lobbying.

Sadly we are becoming an Oligarchy. I think one thing we can do to limit the infuence of money is to limit the influence of oligarchs. Since the Senate is the least democratic institution in our democracy and is the natural home of the oligarchs, maybe we need to start there by either reforming the Senate or changing it's role in government.
