Coercive Interrogations Worked

Wootabulous.

Thank God for the President taking those difficult decisions to allow those terrible terrorists to be tortured in order to save America.

Without the use of torture we would never have found out that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed murdered the American journalist, Daniel Pearl. We would never have found out that three British residents at Guantanamo appeared alongside Osama bin Laden in one of those 1980's style home videos Al-Qaeda seems so fond of. And we would never have known that Ibn Shaykh al-Libi passed on vital information that Iraq was training Islamic terrorists in the use of WMD.

Except, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed didn't murder Daniel Pearl despite confessing to it under torture.

The three British residents of Guantanamo, known as the 'Tipton Three', didn't appear alongside Osama bin Laden in a propaganda video as, even though they confessed to it under torture, they were working in an electrical shop in the UK at the time.

And Ibn Shaykh al-Libi, despite "remembering" the training in WMD which Iraq provided to Islamic terrorists didn't really "remember" it after all, despite confessing to it under torture and that confession being used, very publicly, as justification for the Iraq War.

This torture lark really is fantastic isn't it? The President must protect Americans at all costs, even against threats which are entirely made up by a man who just wants the pain to stop. Impeccable logic.

Wow awesome replies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I have a really good idea. Go back to Charver's original post, and pick it apart. Tell us how is misrepresented? How he lied? Tell us how the truth is that the confessions of the murder of Daniel Pearl and the training in Iraq with WMD's were true and that torture worked in getting them.

Your premise is flawed, since enhanced interrogation of terrorists isn't torture.

You sure about that? You willing to walk the talk there? How bout letting us apply those enhanced interrogation techniques on you. If you still maintain that they are not torture afterwards well concede you the point. Until then......your comment is a fucking joke.

I mean come on SM. You're not a complete idiot. You have to realize what a stupid comment that was. It was like saying "Lincoln wasn't assasinated. He was shot in the head." Your parsing words and making yourself look foolish in the process.

What really bothers me about this whole discussion is that there are very important principles involved here. The principles of the rule of law, human decency and civilized conduct. One does not defeat evil by resorting to evil.

I would have had no problem giving some asshole like Sheikh Mohammad a fair trial and a public hanging. He's certainly deserved that. The man is a thug and a murderer.

But when we torture people, when we emasculate the rule of law, when we abdicate our commitment to common decency and civlilized behavior then we have stooped down to the level of these terrorist thugs whom we are fighting. We will have become that which we loath.

That is the danger here that those who are advocating the use of torture miss and all decent human beings, left or right, understand this.

I for one and decent political leaders like Obama and John McCain (who knows first hand what torture is) understand this and will not tolerate this behavior and we are in the right about this.

You're not the first to attempt to take this to the personal level; it doesn't help your argument. Look up the definition in the dictionary- water boarding doesn't meet it, unless you were to do it to afford sadistic pleasure, which is perhaps what you are suggesting.

I would agree if we were discussing actual torture but of course we are not.

I can wait all day. Are you going to walk the talk? We've shown you every which way to Sunday that this is torture and you just keep on parsing words. Nows the time to show us you're not just full of hot air. Walk the talk or, quite frankly, you have no credibility. Let us apply these enhanced interrogation methods on you, then you can tell us if they are torture or not.

Cause if your not willing to do that then you are being intellectually dishonest to an extreme. If you are not willing to do this then that is because your sense of self preservation is kicking in cause you don't want to be tortured and no one can blame you for that or call you cowardly but if you truely believe what you are saying and are not a coward then you should have no problem allowing us to apply your so called "enhanced interrogation methods" on you.

You added zero to your argument- for the second time. :cof1:
