Nigel Calder is an excellent fellow, I have his book The Chilling Stars. I hadn't realised before that he helped Jasper Kirkby with the original proposal for the CLOUD experiment.

Truly amazing that the warmers like Mott have nothing to say. Imagine that.... allowing actual SCIENTISTS to actually TEST theories to see if they are correct or not. I could have sworn we were all just supposed to run around yelling 'consensus' in order to prove a theory.

There is much more to do as it hasn't been adequately explained how aerosols are formed at cloud heights of around one kilometre. The original hypothesis that it involved sulphuric acid and water has been proved to be inadequate for low level clouds. It needs the addition of tiny amounts of ammonia to help explain the phenomena but there appears to be an unknown mechanism at work as well. Jasper Kirkby hopes to be able to form miniature clouds to test the theory further. This article on the Leeds University website explains far better than I can.

That's great news for us northern dwellers considering winter is just around the corner. There's nothing like standing in the warm house pushing the remote car starter and letting it warm up before getting in.

I agree there is far more to do and REAL research to be done. My point was only that it is refreshing to see real scientific efforts instead of foot stomping and consensus shouting.

I wonder if the data being accumulated here at CSU would be of use in this. http://cloudsat.atmos.colostate.edu/
