Clinton campaign responds to Trump’s ‘personal pain’ apology — and it’s perfect

On Thursday night, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump gave a speech in which he offered an apology of sorts for the way he has conducted himself and his campaign thus far.

“Sometimes, in the heat of debate(if you call mudslinging & name calling debate), and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that, and believe it or not I regret it,” the candidate dutifully read as per his new campaign staff’s instructions. “I do regret it particularly where it may have caused personal pain.”

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign responded with healthy skepticism.

“Donald Trump literally started his campaign by insulting people. He has continued to do so through each of the 428 days from then until now, without shame or regret,” said a statement released only minutes after the speech concluded.

“We learned tonight that his speechwriter and teleprompter knows he has much for which he should apologize. But that apology tonight is simply a well-written phrase until he tells us which of his many offensive, bullying and divisive comments he regrets — and changes his tune altogether.”

The campaign then offered a handy list of all of the people Trump has insulted and demeaned over the 14 months, including the blizzard of insults the former Reality TV star has lobbed at ideological opponents on Twitter, his attack on Gold Star parents Khizr and Ghazala Khan, on immigrants, on Judge Alonzo Curiel and more.

This week, the Trump campaign took on new staff in an effort to reverse the candidate’s downward slide in the polls. Breitbart.com editor Stephen Bannon became the campaign’s CEO and pollster Kellyanne Conway was installed as campaign manager.

Whine if he insults people and then whine again if he apologizes.....

He regrets it because they told him to say it, because it is believed it will do his campaign some much needed good.........

He has repeatedly said HE WOULD NOT APOLOGIZE, & he seems to be sticking to that........

So, when will Obama apologize?

My first thought as well.

He has been asked every single time if he had regrets, or would rephrase anything. He has always proudly indicated that he didn't, and wouldn't.

It took Kelly-Anne Conway to force him to apologize. I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the deal for her taking the job.

It's a good thing, it's also a necessary gambit. Trump has to re-shuffle the deck.

Trump isn't a professional politician he's not smooth and easy on the ears. If you want that - go with the establishment crowd.

Some of the stuff he's said has been hyped wrong
("Mexican rapists" -when he was talking about the Mexican gov't dumping their trash over the border)

some of it is Trump's inability to moderate himself. I'm not making excuses -it will probably cost him the election
to a crooked, warmongering lying profession politico like Clinton.

But if it get's the coverage off his sensationalism, and onto WHO is GOING TO GOVERN HOW?.. it's a positive development

After months of saying he has no regrets for the way he has acted, and facing rapidly shrinking electoral prospects, suddenly he hires a pollster and gives a TelePrompTer speech expressing regret for "things you do".

Most Americans won't fall for that. Does he think the women he is trying to schmooze are that dumb?

So then he did apologize..... ThnX..

Do they truck them to the river & tell them don't come back if your not in a coffin?? Or do those "rapist" criminals, drug deals etc come here all by themselves?? Lured by the prospects of good republican's hiring them???

it's the generalized lack of border controls. we do not have control over most of it. Mexico does little on their end to stop illegal immigration

True.......... But does "doing little to stop them" equate to "sending" them?? NO!!

They choose to come here because they believe American business owners will hire them.......

it's the usual Trump loose language.
Are you going to get technical and require him to use the Queen's English?
TrumpSpeak is so much more entertaining!

They flee poverty - they take enormous risks getting here, and now it's refuges from Central America's drug wars.

Yes the capitalist gangs from central America, Mexico etc have come up here to compete w/ the American's doing the same, but isn't that the nature of capitalism??

if you want the drug wars to end, we have to stop our own drug wars.
Complete legalization is the only sane way to end the violence, and regulate the stuff

Agreed.. Many civilized countries have already done so, focusing on prevention & treatment, not incarceration.. Which is opposed by many, including the for profit prisons.. THey prefer real "LAW & ORDER".........
