Clint Eastwood is a genius!

Again, proving my point, the man is a genius. You are all still talking about him today. People who didn't see his convention speech are burning up YouTube to find it. Probably not since Andy Warhol, has an artist evoked such a passionate response to his work. If Eastwood had stood up there and delivered the typical prepared speech, nothing fancy, just routine talking points... people would have yawned and it would have all been a forgotten footnote of the convention by now. The fact that this has gone viral, and everyone continues to talk about it, is a testament to the sheer artistic brilliance only Clint Eastwood could have delivered.

Now, I am sure Clint, being the perfectionist he is, wishes he would have rehearsed his skit a little more instead of taking that nap before his appearance, but all in all, I think he did exactly what an artist is expected to do, he stirred your passions and made you take notice. You can't stop talking about it, as a matter of fact. The image of "Invisible Obama" lives on, and Eastwood did that.

What? Oh, nevermind.

Remember, the Dix also "foretold" a "backlash" that would carry Spermin' Herman Cain into the White House.

I think he punked the GOP. He played one of their base who is addled and incapable of seeing anyone in America who isn't white. The 'empty' chair=most of America and the GOP is irrational, so he was perfect. It's always good to be able to laugh at yourself!

It's not that he's a conservative ideologue, but that he came off as an addled, long-winded geezer. Although you never know, maybe the whole thing was scripted to draw attention from Rmoney's vapidity.

Not really...he supports many democratic platforms. Politically, he's an independent.

Again, proving my point, the man is a genius.

I'm reading opinions that Eastwood was a Democrat plant to make the Republicans look like fools.

I suspect that's a more credible explanation than Eastwood being a genius.

Clint has been a long time Republican. He was a Republican when he was mayor of Carmel. He never tried to hide it or claim otherwise. He is not though, as Mott claimed, a conservative ideologue.

Yep, but he is an old school republican. He is a fiscal conservative and doesn't give a damn about who marries who ect ect.

That republican party could clean up.

1. I don't see myself as conservative, but I'm not ultra-leftist. You build a philosophy of your own. I like the libertarian view, which is to leave everyone alone. Even as a kid, I was annoyed by people who wanted to tell everyone how to live.

2. Maybe I'm getting to the age when I'm starting to be senile or nostalgic or both, but people are so angry now. You used to be able to disagree with people and still be friends. Now you hear these talk shows, and everyone who believes differently from you is a moron and an idiot -- both on the Right and the Left.

3. I'm interested in the fact that the less secure a man is, the more likely he is to have extreme prejudice.

4. Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self-respect leads to self-discipline. When you have both firmly under your belt, that's real power.

5. The Korean War was only a few years after World War II. We all went. But you couldn't help but think, Shit. What the hell? What have we gained? One minute you're unleashing the tremendous power of nuclear fission, and then a few years later you're jockeying back and forth on the 38th parallel. It seemed so futile.

6. It takes tremendous discipline to control the influence, the power you have over other people's lives.

7. A good man always knows his limitations.

8. It's making sure that the words "public servant" are not forgotten. That's why I did it. 'Cause I thought, I don't need this. The fact that I didn't need it made me think I could do more. It's the people who need it that I'm suspect of.

9. Sometimes if you want to see a change for the better, you have to take things into your own hands.

10. Hollywood, as everyone knows, glamorizes physical courage ... if I had to define courage myself, I wouldn't say it's about shooting people. I'd say it's the quality that stimulates people, that enables them to move ahead and look beyond themselves.

. All those quotes help explain why Clint is the man. According to you though a Libertarian is even worse than a Republican so you first claim Clint is an independent but now you post quotes where he claims to like Libertarian ideals? Are you trying to prove yourself wrong?

He doesn't say he's a Libertarian, right?

And yes, Libertarians with their elite "I don't give a shit about anyone" view are the worst.

I didn't say he did. Clint said he likes the Libertarian view of leave people alone which is what you just described as the worst. Thats far from the independent view you claimed.

That is what the old school republicans wanted too. Fiscla conservatism and leave the social bullshit alone.

Conservative ideologue? Would a conservative ideologue done that halftime commercial during the Super Bowl this year? Would a conservative ideologue have that great quote on gay marriage that those on the left on this board all loved? Clint is anything but an ideologue. In fact when people talk about wanting old school Republicans back instead of today's ideologues Clint Eastwood is the exact type of Republican they are talking about as he is anything but an ideologue.

You are so transparent it's laughable.

Eastwood has done irreparable damage to an otherwise stellar career.

No surprise that you call him genius. :0)

How has he damaged his career? Will you no longer watch his movies? For every lib who doesn't there will be a righty who will. Unfortunately, that is what our country has turned into. People make economic decisions based on someone elses politics. Wasn't supposed to be this way. This is the result of an over burdensome gobblement. Our country is becoming more and more balkanized.

Problem is, we're supposed to be talking about Rmoney and how he stirred us, but instead his own speech is only being discussed by fact checkers.

You don't want to be stirred by Romney. Now make sure to charge the batteries for your vibrator so you can get all jazzed up during Black Hussein Maobama's speech.

:rofl2:

You righties might want to Google "Eastwooding"...you're the laughingstock of the world.

OH come on! Eastwood has been a conservative ideologue all my life. This is Dirty Harry were talking about. Not Pope John Paull II. Trust me. No harmd one here.

Being a conservative is not the same as being a ranting, stuttering, bumbling old fool. That's the image Eastwood has burned into memory. The background image of his macho tough-guy character only added a sad comedy to the emabarassed-for-him image of an uncombed and incoherent Eastwood talking to a chair .. and losing.

:0)

C'mon man .. don't act surprised that people are laughing at him and calling him a bumbling fool.

Most importantly, don't act as if the right-wing wouldn't be doing the same thing if you'd been handed this wonderful opportunity. :0)

You KNOW that you would.

Hehe.. unlike Tesla-ites, I won't claim he is one of the greatest geniuses of all time, but yeah... I think he is a fucking genius.

OF ALL the RNC convention speeches, his was the most direct and focused attack on Obama and his failed policies. Eastwood called him out on everything from Afghanistan to trials terrorists in downtown NYC... to being a limousine liberal... and he made brilliant points, one of the best lines of the convention: We Own This Country!

Eastwood even got shots in on Biden.
"He's like a grin with a body behind it."

I thought he demonstrated his creative brilliance in using an empty chair to symbolize Obama. The added touch of giving the empty chair a teleprompter, shows why Eastwood is an American treasure. Who else could have pulled off such a great public condemnation of Obama and his policies? Today, it is the trending topic on Twitter and other social media, and in that regard, isn't that exactly what an ARTIST is supposed to do? The fact that people are talking about Eastwood's speech, whether it's good or bad, whether you thought he was a bumbling idiot, whether you're like me and thought it was a brilliant performance for an old guy without a script... it made you pay attention to it, it made you discuss it and talk about it... and for ART, that IS the purpose. True?

Wonderful! The same people discussing Clint (must remember the 'n' ) Eastwood talking to an empty chair as spend their Sundays praying to something just as empty and just as invisible.
