Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper thinks that the Watergate scandal "pales" in comparison to the President Trump-Russia probe.
“I think if you compare the two that Watergate pales, really, in my view, compared to what we’re confronting now," Clapper said while speaking to reporters at the National Press Club of Australia.
On "America's Newsroom" Mike Huckabee said Clapper must be "sniffing glue" to make an outrageous statement like that.
He pointed out that Watergate involved former President Richard Nixon and multiple high-level government employees, while the Russia probe is centered around unproven allegations about the Trump campaign.
"No smoking gun, no credible evidence that the campaign had not coordination but communication with an ambassador," Huckabee said. "This is absurd. I don't know even where he would come up with this."
He argued that Congress should be more interested in investigating the Obama administration's alleged illegal spying on American citizens.
As for former FBI Director James Comey's much-anticipated testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Huckabee said that if Comey had any evidence of President Trump or his team involved in any wrongdoing, he had obligation to report it earlier.
He said the fact that Comey did not goes to show that the former FBI director does not believe that Trump engaged in any obstruction of justice related to the Russia probe.
