You blame Reagan for the sins of Bill Clinton. Reagan did keep most favored for China, as his own base strongly supported it. Japan was the most significant economic rival at the time, and Reagan took steps - including tariffs on Japanese steel, to contain that threat. Very much like Trump today.

It was Clinton and Dubya who moved American manufacturing to China.

Tariffs on Japan, yes, Red China no. I didn't say he was the only traitor, and he did indeed renew their privileges his entire 8 years, no way to spin out of that. Reagan was highly over-rated, and many of his policies were merely continuations of Carter's, which is why I find it hilarious so many right wingers still try to whitewash his crap as if he were some kind of God.

He knew what the response would be because Buchanan tried the same thing just a few months before, and all it did was provoke more states to secede. Lincoln refused to see the peace delegation led by Virginia, and his attempt at blockading the port at Charleston provoked more states to secede, including Virginia.
