Cities Around Ukraine Rocked as Russia Launches New Wave of Strikes

I’m not advocating for Uk to be part of nato. Just stating reality. Putin or his successor will not stop until Ukraine is subjugated.
The only chance for Ukraine independence is to be part of nato.

They'll be better off being part of Russia. Russians are their neighbors .

That, of course, will be too bad for the western oligarchs who have purchased huge swathes of Ukraine already. I can't see them getting their money back.
They must have paid McCain a fortune to initiate the 2014 coup.

They would have been. Too late now.
Russia wants to turn Ukraine into a field. They just as soon kill every Ukrainian.

Nah- the Russians really do see Ukrainians as quasi-Russians. Many Ukrainians are pro-Russian. They are not stupid. They have lived through the eight years of Azov Nazi shelling and they saw the results of the US-led coup. Russia's problem is what to do with all the NATO puppets in Ukraine.

Ukraine isn't a single entity -the east is much closer to Russia then Kyiv for cultural, economic, and linguistic ties.

Kyiv would not give the east autonomy -Donbas doent want to be under Kyiv control
The real way to end this is a negotiated settlement, else it's never going to end except cease fires

When it goes NATO it becomes a millstone we have to fund and put US boots on the ground

the objection now is western forces on it's border. it needs a buffer. Ukraine used to be that -now it's a a pawn in east/west confrontation

we are at war with Russia -never forget that

No doubt and has been basically since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
You often mention Euromaidan but it goes way before that.

This is a good article to read up on: https://www.brookings.edu/blog/orde...re-about-ukraine-and-the-budapest-memorandum/

It’s a little slanted in favor of conflict with Russia but still informative.

Yes we are. But what to do now?

Personally I’d give Russia much of the Donbas (negotiable), assurance of a permanent base in Sevastopol and allow Crimea to be an autonomous region of Ukraine to determine their own future without Russian interference. Pipe dream probably. The West and Russia will always interfere.
But, allow the rest of Ukraine to be allowed in nato if and only if , and after , they get their act together in being a viable democracy. That is the price russia would have to pay for the harm they’ve inflicted on the country.

That would be my end goal in negotiations, not my starting position of course.

And many are not. And the special military operation has caused future generations of Ukrainians to hate Russia- even more so than those of former Soviet republics and Warsaw Pact countries. Russia is not good at making allies, are they?
Why not divide Ukraine like the old Czechoslovakia was done peacefully?

The Zelenskies refuse to concede territory- even though they've already lost 20% of it plus Crimea.
Maybe Ukraine's war financiers can buy it back.

Haw, haw...........................haw.

President Zelensky said there was "almost no life" in Soledar, with "no whole walls left".

He also said "the whole land near Soledar is covered with the corpses of the occupiers".

"This is what madness looks like," he added.

Congratulations, Volodymyr. Another town pulverized- many dead.

You are an example for all Ukrainian patriots to follow. Not.

i dont know anyone that "supports Putin"
I do know quite a few that want conditions placed on aid and accountability ( and not 3 guys taking inventory) :seenoevil:

Beyond that America needs to support a peace process. not led by the UN (Turkey might work)
instead of US escalation that has now expanded the war - getting closer to nukes.

Get the Europeans off from sitting on their wallets, and involved with designing talks
That's the only war this war of attrition ends

Lets start with the Chinese, MKay?

My brother asked me what I thought the Russians were doing in the last days, what is going on. I said that I do not know because I have not been paying attention, but that I would take a look.

I did see where Putin said the other day that the Ukrainians have no choice but to process the new realities.

I wonder how close we are to losing the Indians to China, which would be catastrophic for the West.

Overtly saying that we wont be happy till there is Russian regime change was certainly moronic.
