Church Refuses to Conduct Weddings!

I have always thought that the government should get INTO the civil union business and OUT of the marriage business... and the church should get OUT of the civil union business and stay solely involved in the marriage business. Couples - both hetero and homosexual could form civil unions and share the benefits that government gives them, and churches could be free to marry - or not marry - whoever they wanted to. Some protestant denominations, like the UCC, for example, are perfectly willing to perform same sex marriages. Others are not. It would be their choice.

Let the churches choose? What a wild concept. Especially in a nation that prides itself on its freedoms.

No surprise there. Gov'ts have always tried to tax everything and make money.

But it is really not part of this discussion unless you are willing to join with me in removing the gov't from the institution of marriage and have all the straight couples forego the benefits they receive from being married.

Good deal! Anything to protect the sanctity of marriage

So you collect wood and light fires and huddle round them in the cold weather. Mmm. That's so-o-o-o macho.
We have central heating and air conditioning. Do you have that in America yet? Then we can spend the time you spend in blowing for a flame reading and going out to enjoy ourselves.
But, no, lets not belittle you too much. I'm sure lighting fires makes you feel like a real backwoodsman. So-o-o-o impressed. Jolly good.

Wow one would think a liberal ass like yourself would be all for green energy, but as usual the lefts hypocrisy always finds them out

I think there is a lot of work to be done to get marriage back to anything resembling "sanctified".

Unless you believe that Bishop that claims sexual abuse does not happen in straight marriages.

As long as we keep it out of the hands of the sexually deviant homosexuals, we can work on the rest.

Why would that be a big deal. Numerically there are probably more sexually deviant heterosexuals getting married than there will ever be homosexuals wanting to marry.

But the straights get the benefits despite a fondness for sodomy in the majority of them.

Well yes being as their are more heterosexuals, than homosexuals, I do not engage in Sodomy and couldn't tell you who does but I know homo's do.

I'm curious, how does a gay couple engaging in sodomy effect your marriage at all? And since many, many married couples do that now, why is your marriage not threatened by straight couples engaging in sodomy but allowing gays to marry will somehow effect the sanctity of your marriage?

Back in upstate NY I heated my 1400 sf house with a catalytic stove. Although I had an excellent oil boiler with a perimeter hydronic system, I enjoyed the exercise as well as the cost savings. "Heats you twice" is the saying with wood. We didn't have, or need, air conditioning as it rarely got about high 70's there.

Now that I live in this 4100sf ark with twin heat pumps I have a catalytic insert in one of the fireplaces. It's a great addition to my informal den, although I doubt it saves me much money even though I haven't bought cord wood in years. Over the years I've used it less and less, and I don't burn that much anymore because my wife has developed less tolerance for the dust that the materials handling inevitably causes. It still is a valuable secondary heat source tough if we get a long power failure.

With the dust issue in mind I designed my mountain home without a chimney or a wood burning appliance. I installed a high efficiency oil boiler for my primary heat source. That uses a water-to-air exchanger with central air handling, so I can filter and humidify the house and if necessary, install central air. After owning it for 7 years I find AC is not needed, since, like upstate NY, the Blue Ridge mountains enjoy cool summers. For ambiance and a secondary source I have a direct vent propane stove with "gas logs" and a realistic flame in the great room. When I need to take a tree down there I either give the wood away or haul it home for my infrequent uses and emergency stockpile.

Then we should be working to remove the licensing from the marriage process and eliminating the benefits that the states bestow on married couples. That way it will be strictly a religious institution. Until we remove the federal, state and local gov'ts from the equation, it is not strictly a religious institution.
We agree. That is exactly what should happen.

Not really. As an American it is highly likely that your 'carbon footprint' is considerably bigger than mine.

a. I feel sorry for your wife.

b. Please explain to the class exactly how you "know" what homo's do. Have you seen it first hand?

lol..."first hand" :)
