It is in the United States for social programs. It is everywhere else for the same and national healthcare. Something has to pay for all that.

While I'm not a fan of Schumer (I believe he is too partisan and puts the welfare of his party over country) he is one of the few democrats who actually seem to have a clue as to why the democrats actually lost the election and is taking effective steps to fix it.
His new policy agenda roll out the other day included many of the same themes President Trump himself campaigned on - with the addition of what I believe will be popular proposals such as minimum wage increases. So this is a guy the Republicans would be smart to take very seriously. Because if Schumer is successful at steering the democratic party away from the divisive identity politics of the charlatans and back onto issues the working class actually cares about it can be a successful again.
In other words - he's one of the few democrats who actually seem to have a clue and he's in a strong position to do something about it.
