Chrysler Auto Workers Busted

We're all rooting for the auto industry to come back stronger than ever. It affects every one of us here in metro Detroit and across the country because it's so important to our economy.

Fox 2's Rob Wolchek got a tip about what some guys are doing at Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. This is the same plant that President Barack Obama visited back in July and talked about the significance of manufacturing in America.

The same place where the President remarked on the tax-payer generated government loan saying "I believed that if each of us were willing to work and sacrifice in the short term -- workers, management, creditors, shareholders, retirees, communities -- it could mark a new beginning for a great American industry. And if we could summon that sense of teamwork and common purpose, we could once again see the best cars in the world designed, engineered, forged, and built right here in Detroit, right here in the Midwest, right here in the United States of America." :barf:

I like it when they get confronted with the reporter, run like rats.

Update....

Chrysler fires UAW workers caught drinking, smoking pot

Chrysler announced that it has fired 13 employees who were caught drinking and smoking pot during their lunch hour by a local Detroit TV station.

Two other employees have been suspended for a month without pay.

"As is evidenced by the swift action taken in this matter, it should be clear that Chrysler Group will not tolerate such behavior and will continue to evaluate its protocols to ensure that something like this does not happen again," the company said in a statement.

WJBK Fox 2 News in Detroit caught Chrysler autoworkers drinking alcohol and smoking what appear to be joints during their shifts at the automaker's Jefferson North auto plant in Detroit.

There was some skepticism about how harsh the union-protected employees would be punished. Frankly, we here at Drive On thought there was a good chance they'd all get suspended and be back on the job once the dust settled.

Like everything else the good old days with the power lunches are gone.

Hooray. Getting people fired is awesome.

On the comment that "American made ain't what it used to be," as compared to when?

Not always a bad thing. For example many the viewed the 49ers firing their offensive coordinator yesterday as a great thing.

No, its' not always a bad thing. It just strikes me a pretty fucked up for a journalist and news crew to ambush some working stiffs who are drinking and smoking pot on their lunch break for no good reason. What public interest is being served here?

To bust a couple of people nothing much. If it were a part of some expose showing this a major problem at the company then it would have some merit.

You and I agree.

The only reason this is in the news is that its nearly impossible to fire union employees. Mere incompetence or poor productivity isn't enough to get rid of them.

Are you saying they shouldn't have been fired? Yes it's fucked up that the media has nothing better to do, but people working to put together cars that we buy and drive and doing so high is in the public interest. I don't want to buy a car those guys worked on. I don't care if they get lit and stoned after work, but during work hell yes. Also, Webbway, the fact that Obama spoke from that factory does not mean he knew that there were people there getting high. This was a hackish attempt at smearing the president because he happened to be there.
