There were the same predictions of doom of the D's.
Never underestimate the party in powers ability to shoot themselves in the foot by misunderstanding their mandate. A lot of the Dems electoral success was about Iraq, civil liberties and Bush. With Bush but a memory, the Dems ignored the two key issues (disheartening their base and some indies) and focus on big government socialism.
