There are plans for a mobile base in 2024....which is governmentese for 2030.

The Chinese have their funding plans laid out. Ours is dependent upon Trump and the Democrats getting along. All the idiots on this forum are talking civil war, but they also think we can unite to beat the Chinese? LOL

Funding. Can't keep cutting taxes and blowing the money everywhere but science without it impacting NASA.

NASA gets about 0.48% of the federal budget.

Absolutely they were worried, but the US was united against them. Now, not so much. Between Russia Don and China Joe, we're screwed.

NASA. Isn't that a SOE? (State Owned Enterprise) Might be better to leave Space to Private Enterprise, ... like Bezos, to solve these problems. (?)

Will Bezos beat the Chinese to the Moon? No.

Bezos will be running the greatest space tourism industry known to man. He needs more rockets, more pilots and, eventually, his own space station as a hotel.

Elon Musk wants to go to Mars but already said it'd be a one-way trip. Even if he did beat the Chinese to Mars, they'd have to wait for the Chinese to show up to go home.

I noticed that my post about the oil went unreplied. Also there's the claim that it's a rich source of helium-3.
 
I was in China 15 years ago and then 5 years ago, the changes in infrastructure was amazing. When China decides to do something they go all in, no doubt barring anything unforeseen happening they will indeed set up a base on the moon.

Blue Team would call building a Base on the Moon 'White Imperialism'. (Pointing at Magellan, Cook, or that Columbus guy)

More like White Capitalism, but that won't be for years until the market for Low Earth Orbit Space Tourism is saturated....although they might start buying slots on the Moon from the Chinese.

'Central Planning'. I believe the Issue is Central Planning. Central Planning is like when the Government built a Canal in Panama. It was an 'America First' idea that most supported back then.
