April 17, 2026 – China’s installed nuclear power capacity has reached the world’s largest, according to the Blue Book on China’s Nuclear Energy Development 2026, released today by the China Nuclear Energy Association.
As of now, China has 60 commercial nuclear power units in operation and 36 under construction, with the latter accounting for more than half of the global total. Additionally, 16 units have been approved and are awaiting construction. The country’s total installed nuclear capacity now stands at 125 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world.
This year, China has already commenced construction on two new nuclear units and is set to complete seven units. The scale of nuclear capacity under construction continues to lead globally.
