This is what I wrote: "I did not say the only property of extremism is racism. In fact, it may have nothing to do with it."

I do not believe GW Bush was a racist, but I think he was an extremist. So, an extremist who is not a racist. That is what I meant.

Thanks, and I see nothing wrong with your followup.

But, this is what I believe. I was able to get through the Bush years without living in fear and disgust every day of his presidency.

I saw him as a tolerable Republican president, who would serve his time, and the world would survive.

Now Donald Trump, I saw him as a total Human Failure to start with, and an abomination of the office of the presidency, that created a whole new standard for the Republican Party that will continue now long after he goes tits up even- and that is to Lie- Deny- And CRY every time they don't get their way about anything. And a corrupt president who breaks the law and hides behind the presidency abusing his presidential powers. That is here to stay now that Donald Trump showed them how to do it and create a false reality, controversy, corruption, democracy crisis, and total chaos.

This is a stain on America that we will be stuck with forever now!

Right behind Donald Trump will be another sorry ass son-of-a-bitch just like him- if not even worse!

While every president had a majority of electoral votes necessary to win, many won the electoral college without winning a majority of the popular vote.

Looking at it from a purely global perspective, Rev,
where our domestic Democratic Party would be the most conservative viable party in most Western democracies,
then I think it's fair to say that American Centrists are very conservative indeed.

I think coastal Americans tend to have a more cosmopolitan perspective than interior ones, however.
Just my impression, of course.

why you wouldn't regard all three of those Republican presidents as extremists for some of the reasons that I mentioned earlier.

You don't consider anti-abortion legislation to be misogynist while people with a different social perspective might.

You don't consider certain aspects of theocracy to be as inappropriate as more secular people might.

You don't feel that our minimalist social safety net is as inadequate as most Euro-minded Americans do.

Is it possible that you don't even consider some of the things that Dubya/Cheney did to be blatant war crimes?

Whether it's cultural or genetic, all of our opinions aren't totally voluntary.
This applies to liberals and conservatives equally.
We can't be built with the blueprint for a helicopter and then proceed to function like a cruise ship.

That's why I so strongly question the concept of our diversity being a strength.
We are clearly diverse, but it more likely is a handicap that we must overcome.

Lifelong? That may be questionable. It goes all the way back to 1973, when his company was charged and prosecuted by the Justice Department for racist bias in his real estate business.

His racism and intolerance have always been in evidence; only slowly did he begin to understand how to use them to his advantage.

Yes, I do remember this when it was made aware to the public back in 2019 for the first time.

So, yes, good point! Reagan was obviously a racist.

And I admit, that I was wrong, in perhaps thinking he wasn't racist.

I just remember that Reagan signed a bill into law in 1986, that allowed Mexican and other immigrants that had been living here prior to 1982 legal status.

Wow, that was like an instant 8 million more citizens at the time.

So, even if he was a racist, he didn't let his racism affect his presidency all that much!

The truth is Trump has led a very public life as a popular celebrity businessman up until 2016 when the democrats invented the fake narrative you parrot.

Biden called integrated schools "racial jungles", praised racist politicians, called Obama the first clean negro, and chased a Black teen into a parking lot where he threatened to whip him with a chain. His own VP, in so many words, called him a racist.
