Separate crimes by wealth and you find more crime and violence in the poor and desperate. It's been that way since we started living in cities You will also find the wealthy commit economic crimes that dwarf poor people's crimes. How many crimes do you pile up to reach Madoff? It depends on the crime and the reason for it.

If someone was stealing food or baby stuff because they couldn't afford it and it was not available through other legitimate, charitable or govt allowance means, that would be one thing.

But gang related murders over drug turf by young guys who dropped out of school in favor of gang life, are another thing altogether.

There is no excuse for that.
