Carbon Loophole: Why Is Wood Burning Counted as Green Energy?

It's surreal watching libs argue IN FAVOR of cutting down entire forests, TO BURN FOR ELECTRICITY. Have I been teleported to bizarro world? What the? Are we being Onioned? Please tell me this is satire. I mean, they're fucking with us, right?
No they are perfectly serious, that's what so disturbing.

GW extremists literally can't see the forest thru the trees, that's how enraptured they are about so called AGW . They'd literally drink the Kool Aid if Al Gore told them to.

Not as huge as you think, pellets are both denser and have lower moisture content than "wood". Slightly more expensive to ship but not as bad as you are saying.

Yes I know, only fucking idiots or politicians could justify that.

3/4 of a billion dollars every year! ... so what is the penalty if a country falls short of the 2020 EU 20% renewable directive?

This has been the news for a long time now. If you don't believe me then maybe you will believe the Drax website. By the way, the power station is not very far from me and I've seen the huge silos that were constructed to hold the woodchips.

Specially designed and constructed storage domes are used to store the wood pellets after they are transported to the Mississippi River, Louisiana and before they make their way across the Atlantic to the UK.

That is frickin' nutty. All that processing and shipping requires massive amounts of fuel, probably diesel. Looks like one huge giant scam. Algore must be taking a cut.

Meanwhile, coal is just dug out of the ground, relatively little energy is put into production because there is little production. Then with the energy density shipping costs are reduced 30-50%.

Mining coal is energy intensive.

So is cutting wood.
Drax used to be powered by coal from the nearby Selby coalfield which opened in 1983 and was hailed as the most advanced in the world but has now shut down. The domestic coal industry has shrunk hugely and the coal is now sourced both domestically and from places like Colombia and Australia. There are plans to phase out coal completely by 2025. The remaining three generators are to be converted to gas operation.

Yes it's the economics of the madhouse, sadly this is what happens when greenwash gains the upper hand. Look what happened in Germany when the Greens managed to get nuclear phased out after the hysteria following Fukushima. They are now using incredibly dirty brown coal instead, even Runatic would have a hard time defending that lunacy.

Yes, I estimated that number from scanning several sources. Here is one for recycled wood ... in this case, it's only 23%.

Enviva, the world’s largest producer of wood pellets, released data ...

Approximately 23% was sawdust, shavings or residuals from wood product manufacturing.

Here's another for you, Al-the-A ...

"In fact, according to Drax’s own website, last year sawdust made up just 9.5 per cent of its pellets."

Not if it replaces accident prone Nukes.
