Capitol attack reflects US extremist evolution over decades

"Right-wing [and left-wing // the two edits are mine and not the author's] extremism has previously played out for the most part in isolated pockets of America and in its smaller [and larger] cities. The deadly assault by rioters on the U.S. Capitol, in contrast, targeted the very heart of government. . . .

"The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors U.S. extremists, has recorded a 55% increase in the number of white nationalist hate groups since 2017. . . .

"Believers in QAnon are also reeling after Trump left office without fulfilling their baseless belief that he would vanquish a supposed cabal of Satan-worshipping cannibals, including top Democrats, operating a child sex trafficking ring."

So what's it going to be? Are we really going to keep this up? I don't hold any illusions of unity. I don't even want unity. What I would like is peace and a return to rationality.

It won't be long before someone attacks this because the SPLC is mentioned. RWs have a real problem with it.

I'm used to them dismissing credible sources that don't agree with them. Anyone with one functional brain cell knows that white supremacist and white nationalist groups became far more active and far more visible during the Trump presidency. Time to push all the racists back into the closet.

Fires burn down entire cities in 3 to 5 days, Great Chicago Fire or Great Fire of London, so it would be impossible for six months of constant burning. Most protests have absolutely no fires. The few fires have been put out relatively quickly.
