Can we stop pretending the the right is a bastion of "Christianity?"

I'm a universalist.

I just think if someone calls themselves Christian, they should at least TRY to live in a way that's consistent w/ Jesus' message.
Who says that such people aren't trying to do so, and how do you know??
We'll all fall short, of course,
Indeed. All people (who aren't Jesus Christ himself) have fallen short of the glory of God.
but there should be at minimum some effort.
See 1st response.

In 2022, 85 percent of Republicans claimed that they are Christians.

That is an overwhelming majority.

Although on this forum, it looks like almost none of them attend Sunday service regularly, and do not even make a minimal effort to emulate the example of Jesus.

At least Christians know they are sinners. A huge part of the left are Christ deniers

Yeah, mostly conservative Republicans.
So?

Mat 7:13

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Mat 7:14
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Look at the results of these vicious, unfounded and racist lies about Haitians.

Would Jesus Christ EVER support that? Would he EVER defend that, as most of MAGA is right now?
What unfounded and racist lies about Haitians, Barfly?????
I think someone is slipping you a mickey in your drink.

They do, Barfly. Since you have declared yourself to not be Christian, what do you care?

Well, if they are lies it would be "Bearing False Witness"... However, the whole premise of the religion is that folks are not perfect, only one person was and he was also God. So, by that god's grace they'd be forgiven if it were a sin. Denying that grace is a bit non-Christian though...

There's also that uncomfortable bit about judging others only to be judged by your own rules... If we take that all the way out, almost no human will be judged by all that forgiveness as almost every human I have seen runs around telling folks that God would "never forgive" them for something. If such is the case, and because you judged others using that premise, you would be judged that way too...

Nobody will be going to Heaven, because everyone seems to ignore Grace... :dunno:
So, its an excuse to sin?

Christian nationalism is bastard form of religion that perverts almost all the core concepts of the religion while trying to retain a connection to the name (Christian) because that allows them to deceive adherents.

The core concepts coming out out of Christian Nationalism would all be anathema to Jesus Christ teachings.
I guess you never heard of the Kingdom of God.
It promotes things like:

- embracing politics as core to their identity and seeking political power in Christs name and to use that political power to force others to their views
Well that proves it. You've never heard of the Kingdom of God.
- emphasis on division, xenophobia and intolerance with a focus on immigrants,
I have no problem with legal immigration, Kewpie. It's ILLEGAL immigration that's a problem. You are justifying breaking the law.
non Christians and different races and marginalized groups
If you want to worship a rock, that's your choice. It means you won't enjoy the blessings of Christianity, but you will enjoy all the blessings your Holy Rock gives you.
- pretense that only 'their group' are the true disciples of god and their religion instead of all people in all countries
Again, you haven't heard of the Kingdom of God.
- often preaches their version of the prosperity gospels applauding the hording of wealth by churches, officials, and subjects while trying to further disenfranchise the poor or displaced
The whole Earth belongs to God. Everything in it belongs to God. The wealthy, the poor...all belong to God. He is not a church. He is the Ultimate Official. He disenfranchises no one. It is people that choose to leave Him.

So, its an excuse to sin?
No, even though faux Christian right-wingers like to believe they have carte blanche to sin all they want.

A key tenet of the Protestant reformation is that if your faith in Christ is actually genuine, that has ethical consequences because you will improve morally, even if perfection is not attainable.

Anyone who did not experience moral improvement after putting their faith in Christ means their faith is not actually genuine.

"We"?

They themselves have been increasingly giving up on that false pretense every year since 2016.

The only ones who are still pretending to be Christians are the ones who were Bible thumping zealots before trump came along and caused them to out themselves for what they really are....

Bigoted, hate-mongering shit stains.

Do you understand the fundamentals of Christianity?

and do not even make a minimal effort to emulate the example of Jesus.

It's very difficult to emulate Jesus as he was perfect. What I can do is to pray for him to reveal his will for me. Part of his will for me is to spread the word about HIM, and basically to make HIM the center of my life. So here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna ask that you read the gospels (the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Pray first for the wisdom to understand what you read.

You don't have to read it all at once, just little chunks, and you don't have to do it every day (although you might find yourself wanting to).
